L400 -- Heavy Coolant Leak

Post by space_girl »

Hello.

I have a question....I have a heavy coolant leak on the driver's side of the van. The one mechanic I trust is away until the 20th - the question is, if I continue to to keep the anti-freeze overflow container full, is it ok to drive here and there until he can see it?

Thanks.

It might not be hard to find the leak. It's easy to see and get to the rad, upper and lower rad hoses, and the coolant expansion tank. Feel around each with a glove and you may find the leak. Then you can decide if you can make a temporary repair.

Pets find coolant tasty and it will kill them so be aware of that if there is lots on the ground.

If you drive around, lose your coolant and overheat, your engine is done. You could risk manage it and watch your temperature gauge like a hawk but is it worth it to you?
