Rain Gutter removal

Has anyone removed the rain gutters from an L400? I'm looking to put a more permanent mount on it like the Thule Artificial Gutter mount https://www.rackattack.com/base-roof-ra ... -brackets/.
I had a Thule high roof rack on my previous Delica and it did a number on the gutter, especially when it's being put on and off quite often. It looks somewhat cosmetic to me and may be attached solely on double-sided adhesive. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
