Block heater

Hi all,
So I've just bought a 97 L400 which I love. In the paper work stating the work that was done upon import, it says that a block heater was installed. I cant seem to find it. I've tried to contact Mardy about it but haven't heard back. Where does he instal them? BTW I did not buy this directly from Mardy.

The same thing happened to me ladt year. Bought a 95 L400 4M40. The guys at the shop said that the supplier changed and they had one block heater fall out, destroying an engine. Now they dont put them in anymore. And i live in Manitoba. Are you in a cold area?

The block heater in my 1995 4M40 is just behind where the turbo is on the left side of the engine when looking at it from the front. It was installed before I got the van and I can't say I know if this is the usual location for them. I had a van previous to this one and I was inquiring about putting a block heater in and got the same response that NAPA changed their part numbers and the new ones fall out. The guy at Coombs Country Auto gave me the part number saying I may be able to find one one of the old ones at NAPA in the US but I never made it down there to check.

I'm personally leaning towards one of those heating pads that you glue onto the bottom of the oil pan as I feel it may be a more efficient solution to the horrible winters that Edmonton sees.

I'm a huge fan of the peel and stick Polar Pad oil pan heaters. I've installed half a dozen and it's very easy. You don't have to drain any fluids or cut any hoses you just slap it on. Check my Strada pics, I put a 500watt one on last summer. Ralph in Winnipeg

We have a block heater and an stick-on oil pan heater on our '94 L400. We use the block heater all winter, but if it's really cold (which it often is in Winnipeg) we kick in the oil pan heater. Works like a charm!!

I like the block heater because you can plug it in overnight and forget about it (until you drive off, of course!!), whereas I've been told you need to be more careful leaving the oil pan heater plugged in too long. This often means having to go out and plug it in in the morning before you're even ready to get out from under your bed, never mind out of the house and into winter.

I like the idea of an inline heater, so your hot air can be ready for you when you get in. Of course, there's always this.
