FIXED: Sliding Door is not latching. What is the purpose of that motor?

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

FIXED: Sliding Door is not latching. What is the purpose of that motor?

Post by TRUTHautomotive »

So this happened.

I removed the panels on the sliding door and found that the rear latch has some sort of motor attached to it. I disconnected the lever from this motor and voila the door latches fine, power locks still seem to work.

I am usually all for deleting unnecessary electrical components and would be satisfied leaving it disconnected, but usually it isn't a bad idea to figure out what it actually does...

Can anyone shed some light on this? I will post a photograph tomorrow morning for clarity.

When the contacts on the door close, the motor starts up and pulls the door inward. This allows you to close the door very quietly and without slamming it.

Often the contacts get dirty where the door closes, and if you clean them the motor starts working again.

Same advice I gave you in a PM so at least we're consistent. Aside from your youngster's bedtime hopefully you can show up with your buddy and your Mitsubishi!

Can you perhaps give me some insight as to how you removed the sliding door trim?
