Well about 2 months ago my brakes started squeaking. Looked at the front pads; one pad is worn down (on an angle) to the metal tab that indicates the pad is worn out. Both pads had grooves worn into them on there edges also. The rotors are in bad shape, the edges built up with rust so that only the center of the rotor has a clean face. Also, I completely disassembled the brake caliper and discovered that the pistons were badly corruded (one was jammed, which is what caused the angular wear pattern) Anyway, to keep going I polished the pistons, reassembled them, cleaned up the rotor somewhat, clipped off wear indicator and put it all back together.

Next town run I picked up new pads and ordered new calipers. Lordco dropped the ball and it took them over a month to NOT get them. Napa had them the next day...

Last weekend I installed all the new stuff. Painted the calipers red - learning that brake fluid peels paint really good. Also didnt do my research very well and got air into the master cylinder when I was draining the old brake fluid. This was eventually (mostly) overcome - the brakes have lots of holding power but the brake pedal travel feels a bit much.

So Im driving again and I notice my EGT is up consistently by 50-100 F. Hmm... Take another look at the front brakes - the pads are already showing those grooves on the edges, and they are obviously dragging and making the car work harder. Spent some time today trying to knock off more rust on the edges of the rotors. This is a temporary fix to try and save these pads until I replace the rotors.

Anyway, long story short, I need new rotors, and searching this site indicates I cant just pick up a pair at Napa? I have to get them through a Delica dealer? Also, since I am doing the rotors, might as well do the wheel bearings?

I dont know why I have such a hard time finding part numbers on this site but can anyone confirm the rotor thing and provide front wheel bearing numbers?

If you look through the UK delica sites you can usually find the part numbers for the hub bearings and grease seals. But its not always necessary to change bearings as 90% of the time they only need a good cleaning with varsol and repack with new grease. The grease seal can sometimes be reused but its best to get a new one and I would only use Mitsu OE for that as aftermarket grease seals can be hit/miss on quality so they may weep/leak.

As for rotors the options are the JDM parts dealers in BC and the one in Toronto.

Can't recall where you are in Canada.
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

I replaced pads, rotors & rebuilt my calipers on my L400 last summer. I found all the parts except for the front rotors at Lordco. I didn't have any luck finding a cross reference to any other manufacturer for the front rotors. I found a guy online who had a set for sale - so I was lucky. Otherwise I think I would have had to go to a Delica parts supplier. I couldn't find any Montero rotors that would fit the front. They seemed to be unique to the L400.
I can dig up the part #'s for all the other stuff if you need, but it sounds like you were able to source everything else.
Sorry, can't help you with the wheel bearing part #'s.

Seems like everything on the brake system is Montero V6 3.0L except for the front rotors.

Yup 95-99 Montero V6 for all brake parts except rotors. Napa is usually cheaper than Lordco but Rockauto is the cheapest.

Buy caliper piston rebuild kits from Rockauto. Cheaper than replacing the calipers. When you reassemble the caliper piston, spray a little good penetrating oil (not WD 40...) inside the caliper piston seal to help prevent reseizing the caliper. Wipe off the excess.

You can buy new piston seals as well for cheap.

OK changed the profile.

I have to say im getting better prices at Napa (vs Lordco), and the parts arrive way quicker and the service is better... Just some FYI, at least for Campbell River. Rocky mountain had the front rotors and they arrived the next day(!)

So the front brakes are all new now - Pads, calipers, rotors. Doing the rotors was pretty straightforward - except the hub and rotors were seized together. There seems to be two holes on this assembly to drive a pin through to knock them apart. Took a while to figure that out. While I was in there I took the time to inspect and re grease the bearings.

All the parts for the rears are ordered now too.

Took some numbers off the bearings while I was in there, in case anyone wants confirmation.

Front outer bearing: Timken LM 102949
Front inner bearing: Timken NP 626468

My constant problem is SLIDER PINS. Until I replaced them with spanky new ones, but even then, those are a constant maintenance item unfortunately.

Hi guys, I'm going to do my front brakes for the first time and wanted to try and cross reference some part numbers. Do you guys have the numbers for the front rotors, seals, and the caliper pins? thanks :-D

Front rotors are specific to the L400, just order them from a JDM shop (CCA, Rising Sun etc). Slider pins are from the same year Montero, you can order over the counter at Lordco.

Does Mitsubishi Canada carry the appropriate seals or how do you source those?
