I've decided that I would rather, at the moment, have a 7-seater L400 than my current SWB 8-seater (i.e. two captains chairs in the middle row rather than the bench-plus-jump-seat).
Since I have a lot of history with my current van, I'd rather change out the seating arrangement than try to sell it and buy a 7-seater. But at the same time, I don't want to try anything that would be unsafe in an accident and/or the eyes of ICBC.
My van does have shoulder belts on both sides of the centre row, so the belts are not the concern; only the seats themselves.
So I have a question for anyone who has had the flooring apart in their L400:
If I were Mitsubishi, I'd pre-drill the floor in the chassis to accept both types of middle-row seats (much as how I've noticed unused pre-drilled holes in my engine compartment for, I assume, the other gasoline engine configurations).
Does anyone know if this is the case? If so, seat swapping would be a plug-and-play event without the need to reinforce hardpoints on the floor.
And if so, anyone out there with a couple of middle-row captains chairs for sale? Preferably in grey fabric?
Tony.
Is L400 centre floor pre-drilled for both types of seats?

Tony
I have captains chairs in my middle row seating. Easier to get around than the bench seat. There are 2 tracks for each seat in the floor. Both seats ride on their own rails.

That makes sense, but what I am wondering is - are the holes into which the captain's seat rails bolt on the floor accompanied by similar holes for the bench seat? I.e. do all vans have mounting holes for both types of seats set up in the floor already?thelazygreenfox wrote:Tony

I don't want to rip out my flooring to find out if someone has already done so.

Don't know for sure with the l400, but the l300's are configured specific for the seating arrangement ordered. I tried to install a center chamonix bench where my current captains chairs where, and had to drill/weld new studs for the sliders. The l400 has a swiveling center bench which has a center slider, the captains chairs require two, doubt they would weld double the mount to enable both configurations... But hey, you never know....

In a word, no. The floor pans are different.

I had my carpets out recently to do some inner panel and stereo work.
I can confirm the floors are setup for only one 3rd row seating configuration.....If you want captains chairs its a full on do-it-yourself project which would require a different carpet due the way its cut for the bench (different from captain chairs and rails)
