Sliding door is catching

When our van is parked on an angle i.e. pasenger side slightly lower than drivers side, the sliding door does not open smoothly. When you pull on the handle it pops the door out and the door begins it's travel but the door then catches just before it starts going straight back and needs to be pulled on from the back to make it continue on it's path. This only happens when parked on this angle if it is level or the other way operation is smooth and normal. I cannot see where it is catching as all of the mechanisms are hidden at this point in the doors travel. Any ideas?

the roller bearing is worn

from inside the cab at the rear compartment that houses the emergency triangle you can see the holes that lead to the two 10mm nuts that hold the outside sliding panel on. remove those and unclip it. This opens up the track from the outside and you can see/fix the roller bearing/mechanism from there.

is it a cartridge bearing? if so is it a common one and easily replaced?

Have you tried greasing the wheels and track? I was having the same problem and I used some white lithium on the rollers and the track (not alot because it will make a huge mess and get all gummed up). Just enough to make it smooth again. Just an idea.

I replaced the roller bearing on my L300 (similar is not the same rolling bearing/track as L400) a few years ago from the bearing shop in Port Kells. It was a generic sealed bearing. They just measured and matched it up with a new one. Press new one on, fresh grease on track and the problem was resolved.

Do you have stock stock sliding door arm, or an aluminum after market one?

I had (actually still have) the same issue. My bearing was ok, but the aluminum door arm has gotten worn and as a result, the whole door sits a bit low. It rubs against the D gate and requires me to pull the door at the rear end to open. if I got around to getting a small washer, I thinki would be ok.

I found this old thread when searching for "sliding door" in L400 technical.

I have been living with this problem for long time and want to prepare for fixing it when the snow and cold leave...

One day I opened the side door and small parts fell out and the door dropped a bit at the back. Now to open the side door, I release it with the handle then lift the rear of the door and bring it back. To close it I support the door in its forward travel and get my fingers clear before the motor takes over to pull it in. I asked Rising Sun about this and they said I have a broken bracket (expensive) inside the door (and likely bearing issues). I hope to dismantle the door trim and reweld or remanufacture any broken bracket, and replace any bearings.

Has anyone done this fix?

Amayama will have them. Rising Sun Auto may also have them. Cheapest will be amayama, but will be a wait.
