Tyee Imports BEEEEEF!

Post by LeeHammy »

This one is long overdue however when I was first looking for my Pajero I contacted Tyee Imports and was informed that the Pajero's they had listed on Craigslist and their website were in great condition. I told them I was interested and would like to take a look. They said sure no problem come on by and go for a test drive. I told them I would be coming from Vancouver to Campbell River to do so, would this be ok? They said sure no Problem come on by and have a look and a test drive.
SO!.. I asked for my dad's assistance (lives in Clearwater BC) so he drove 6 hours to Van and we took the first ferry over. After the nice drive out there we showed up to Tyee Imports!! Well the one Pajero wasn't there, the other two were rust buckets and were not DOT compliant and illegal to drive. I showed up keen on dropping $6000+ and driving home in my new JDM but what I got instead was some kid who I had to literally tell "please can you show us the Pajero's" to get him to get off his ass and away from FaceBook on the office computer. He then informed me we cant drive the smoke smelling, dirty, rusty sorry excuse for Pajero's but "if you come back in a few weeks we could have it ready for a test drive if you want or whatever"
Short of dropping the kid I apologized to my dad for wasting his time and a few hundred of my dollars taking the drive and ferry over and quietly left. So if your in the market... don't waste your time with these bozos they will just waste yours.

Sorry if this was a rant but they deserve at least that much.

Cheers!

Tyee have been around for a long time.

There's a lot of feedback on the Toyo/Pajero forums.

They are know to have the lowest prices. At a cost.

Imported and put up for sale as is. Compliance, if needed, is up to you.

They are up front about this. In the past 5 years of being in business, I've known quite a few people who purchased from them all happy. But they knew they were paying 3-4,000 less because of the compliance and work that most of their vehicles require.

Another point of view.

I understand you get what you pay for but after explaining to them that I was making the trip from out of town and they said I could test drive. They should have either delivered as said or told me straight up what to expect. It was nothing short of a complete waste of my money and my time and for that they receive this post.

Agree that's not good business.

Since I started looking into and purchasing JDM around here (comox valley) about 5 years ago........ one thing that remained constant, "stay away from Tyee Imports". I never did go near them, heard many a story about them buying the cheapest P.O.S. vehicles at auction, hiding the flaws and screwing the customers in the end. These stories came from customers and other dealers; only place that I found other dealers would openly warn against, not usually very classy for dealer to hack another dealer, but seemed open season on Tyee.

Glad to hear I am not the only one.

I had a friend/buyer who lives in Japan represent me at auction. I did it myself.

I bought a Pajero through Tyee last year. I found one up for auction and arranged to have it purchased with an agreed upon price for pickup FOB Campbell River. The vehicle was safetied and compliant as agreed upon. I had no problem with him.
