Mdrive , do you rebuild pumps yourself or send them out to a diesel shop ? Do you have the correct tool for setting up the pump timing ??

I have partnership with a diesel service shop in richmond where i do all my servicing. That guy knows a lot about the injection pump. But I know that every time we rebuild a pump, we don't have to caliberate as long as youi don't touch the timing.

If the pump is being overhauled it should be removed from the vehicle . If it is removed from the vehicle the timing will need to be reset . So far we have reset the timing on over thirty vans and all have needed adjustment . The tolerance is 0.03 mm so when a belt is changed or the pump is removed the timing is out . We have found some very good improvements in general running once the timing is set .

I was pointing about the caliberation actually.. Everytime you take out the pump, you need minor timing adjustment otherwise you will notice lack of power or smoke.

We remove the pumps send them out to a diesel shop to be resealed and calibrated and then when installed back on the vehicle we reset the timing . We have found the vans to run a lot better once the pump is set up correctly . Gets expensive doing it right but makes a big difference to the running .

Hi, when they take out the pump from the engine, they automatically reset the timing. What Mdrive means is that when they rebuild the injection pump they dont usually change the injection pump setting inside the pump.same as the way the injection pump calibration shop doing. as long as the pump is still good without smoke & loose power when they took it out. But if the car smoke before they took it out from the car then they change the setting before they re-install the pump. this people really know what they are doing they have proper tools & experience regarding this Mitsubishi Delica & Pajero. They have engine Rebuilding & injection calibration service shop in the Phils own by there family in the phils. we got lots of this Mitsubishi engine back home in the Phils. they are used to this type of engine Even doing engine overhaul since Day one when they become mechanic. its easy for them to fix this mitsubishi. they know what there doing. No problem for them easy cause there used to this type of engine.

Had Marty at Amazing do this reseal as stated above. Good job, no leaks (there was prior to reseal) Always had good power, and now can do so with no spilled fuel or stinking up the garage. Had 3 Delica L300's and this one finally has a good IP. Thanks again Marty.

The joy of the internet is that where the timing tool used to be difficult to find, you can now pick up a Bosch VE injection timing adapter from Ebay for around $20. And then you're all set to completely ruin your timing in the comfort of your own home!
