Re: Mysterious intermittent lurching
Still waiting...
Dropped it off at Japanoid Tues Aug 26. They took the tranny to a specialist shop for the overhaul, with instructions for it to be ready Wed Sept 3. They call the tranny shop when it's not back Wed, and the tranny shop says, "Oh we haven't looked at it yet" (keep in mind this is a several days long job). On top of that, the guy who does these particular trannies is leaving on vacation!!
So Japanoid said, "Thanks but no thanks. We'll take our business elsewhere," and today took the tranny to Burt's Transmissions in New West (anyone know them?).
So still driving a Pajero around, and missing our bus.
I'm just praying that this indeed fixes the problem! Can't wait to get in back.

Re: Mysterious intermittent lurching
24 days after dropping it off, it's back! Finally.
Apparently in the transmission the inside of the casing was scratched, so an o-ring was not sealing properly. Fluid was getting by and was trying to engage 2nd gear, thus the lurching when we were stopped.
Go figure.

Any indication of how the scoring developed? Worn gears? What was the end cost?

Re: Mysterious intermittent lurching

Re: Mysterious intermittent lurching
No indication that they told me, but I will email them and ask. The end cost was $0. It was still under warranty.mararmeisto wrote:Any indication of how the scoring developed? Worn gears? What was the end cost?
As it was under warranty, they did what it took to stop the lurching. At first they were going to replace ours with a used one from Japan, but I was a little leery about that because we have a 94, and theirs came from a 92 or something like that. When I asked if they were identical (because there are some changes to the 94 delicas), they weren't sure. So they decided to get ours "reconditioned." I'm not sure what that entails, but I don't think it's the same as "rebuilt."so pinky, did you need a whole new transmission? or just the casing?
