Hi Gary,

Just to add a little bit more information on your bad mileage, the injection pump should deliver the right amount of fuel at all times at different load conditions of the engine. That governor inside your injection pump, as the name would imply, governs or controls that amount of fuel delivered to your injectors. Granted that we have serviced your injectors already, we can then safely eliminate that component on your engine problem. We then go to the source of the fuel getting into your injectors which is the injection pump. Inside the pump is a small sleeve that is supposedly moving very freely and smoothly on your plunger shaft (i hope I'm not getting too technical here...). If for any reason this movement gets sticky, then it will take a while longer for the sleeve to get back to it's proper setting ...thus explains why it takes you more than 4 seconds to get back from 2500rpm to idle.

If you do decide to get the service done, Our guaranty is that you have to be satisfied and happy for what you pay for. If we service the injection pump and it still doesn't solve the problem, then consider that service free of charge.

So, I bit the bullet yesterday and took my van to CVI to get the injection pump fixed. I was hard spending that kind of money but after driving away I figured that paying $600 for a brand new Deli is quite a bargain. I'm serious what a difference, it runs like a dream and I had no idea how much of an improvement this would be. The power comes on smooth with no hessitation, drives smoother, has more power, zero smoke unless I totally stomp on it, seems to idle better, run quieter, the paint looks cleaner, the stereo sounds better, the ladies look at me more...Ahem. I was smiling the whole drive home and couldn't wait to get back in it today.

So Mardy and the CVI guys were right on the money, for those of you who are having the same symptoms I highly recomend you save up and get it done. It's a totally different van, a huge joy to drive, can't say enough good about it.

So there you go, problem solved and another happy customer.

Hi Stef38,

Quality of diesel varies and at some point may have contaminants in it. As the sleeve and plunger shaft clearance is so very small, a small speck of dirt can get it to stick. As with heat and other factors like driving on short distances every time where the engine never gets the chance to heat up to operating temperatures, possibility of varnish and enamels could happen and that makes these two components stick. As the function of the governor (sleeve) should respond to the ever changing conditions of engine load, it should be able to move freely and easily. The chances of this happening is very minimal though (I'd say 10%) and most of the causes of this happening is getting contaminants in (like water) thru the fuel system.

Injection pump overhaul consists of complete disassembly of injection pump, cleaning and inspection of all components, measuration and adjustment of shims if necessary, reassembly of injection pump, replacement of all seals and o rings and then recalibration of injection pump thru a pump tester and finally resealing of all adjusting controls outside the injection pump.

Did you mean "head" as in cylinder head or distributor head of injection pump...? Both need not be changed at all for an injection pump rebuild.
