As for suppliers of said roofs I'm note sure. I would also be interested in what people have found/find.

Reimo made pop tops for our vans, but honestly, good luck trying to find one. I was on this same kick for a while. Even had a friend lined up to cut out my rusty high roof and install the pop top. This guy is more than capable, but I couldn't source a fiberglass roof roof.

Good luck with your search. Let us know if you find something:)

Also, contact "Josh", he's a long time member of Delica Canada (member 14). He was making them for a while, not sure if he still is... maybe not - but he might be able to direct you to options.

Famous pop-up roof...

I was at a Folk Festival this past weekend with several VW Vans & Busses. A friend was there who put a Westfalia pop top from the late 70's on his diesel Eurovan. This guy is super skilled and would be the guy I'd have to help me with my L300 conversion.

Anyway, we decided to go around and measure the various length's & width's of the various VW's that were there. The Eurovan has pretty much the exact same width roof as our L300's. It's the same with the old 1967 and earlier split window buses. He figured a pop top from a Eurovan camper might fit with some modification, and a Dormmobile Top (from the UK) from and old VW Bus would also work with some very slight modifications.

I got kind of excited until I sobered up the next day. It would still be quite tricky to do. And that's not even accounting for cutting the hole in the van itself. I have the high roof model with the glass up in it. Probably even more tricky to convert one of these.

A few years ago I put in on a bid on a proper Japanese Camper through Craig @ Bonsai Rides. I think it was based on a Isuzu truck platform. It was mint inside with everything you would need yet very small on the outside. It was also a diesel 4 by 4. Our dollar was pretty strong against the yen back then and I was very close to winning the auction. I was out by $3 K I think.

I've got a bed from an old Westy in the rear of my van, and it works alright. A pop top would make it a bit better. But a proper Japanese camper would be best as far as I'm concerned. As time and money permits, this might be what I end up doing. But for now I guess it's sardine city for me. Let us know if you come up with something, and good luck with your search.

Cheers, Phil
