Injector replacement pointers?

Post by Adrienmc »

Any pointers on fuel injector removal and install specific to the l300?

Was going to take it to the shop but seems like a pretty straight forward task. Just want to see if there is anything I am missing that the wisdom of the forum may offer?!

Thanks in advance!

It's quite straightforward, clean everything throughly so you don't get dirt in the injectors, then remove them as per the workshop manual. Just be sure to use a spanner to hold the injector body while unscrewing the injection pipes and return rail nut.

This workshop manual has a good description: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=7339

Removing the lower gasket/copper washer can be tricky if it's coked up, you might need to use a pointy scriber or dental style tool, just try not to scratch the sealing surface under the washer. Put a small piece of rag in each injector hole as you go so you don't drop anything into the engine.

The old copper gasket/washers (nozzle, holder, and return rail) will be work hardened and may not seal if re-used. Ideally you'll fit new ones, alternatively you can anneal the old copper washers, but only if they're undamaged (by, say, a pointy scriber or dental style tool). I'll let you Google "anneal copper washer".

Oh and DO NOT DROP the injectors. Keep the protective boots on until the last moment. That little pin on the end is a precision device, a tiny bend or touch of damage and it's ruined.

Amazing! Thanks for the feedback! The injectors and gaskets are in the mail thanks to rising sun who have been helping me get my deli back in good working order. I will have to post some pictures of the install for others who are mechanically challenged like me!

Thanks @Growlerbearnz!

Growler I assume you've removed injectors so do you need a slim 22mm socket to remove the injector? From the tutorial I found on the mdocuk website it states grinding down thus narrowing a 22mm socket as its a tight squeeze. Sending my injectors in for servicing/testing is in the future so any extra pointers are great!

You do need a deep socket (size depends on what size injectors you have- they got slimmer as the engines got newer). I didn't have any issues with my deep socket set, but it was a close fit. I imagine if your deep sockets were more "full figured" they might not fit. In that case it might be easier to go to the tool shop and buy one high-quality, slim socket to get the job done. Definitely measure the injectors first, though.

Is there an additional way, after listening with a screwdriver/rod, to test L300 (4D56) injectors without removing them from the head?
