Hi there everyone,

I've purchased a new kick down cable from Steven at Rising Sun. My old one is still working but on it's way out. This is the cable that runs from the transmission and the injector pump. I'm curious if anyone else on here has tackled this job. And if so, how difficult was it? I've got the post on how to adjust the cable, but I've not seen anything else.

Any help, advice, pictures, words of encouragement are appreciated. I'm mechanically declined at the best of times:(

Thank's in advance!!

Phil

Check out the Technical Reference Library "Automatic Transmission tips and info" (http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=18499)

The Volvoclub.org.uk page has a section on replacing the cable. (Also reproduced in the TRL post, but without the nice pictures)

The Automatic Transmission workshop manual (http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=115&t=7347) shows cable replacement (or, at least, removal, page 23A-3-2), but the Volvo forums suggest it's not necessary to remove the valve body assembly (which might damage the gasket), that if you're careful you can turn the throttle cam with a small screwdriver and remove the cable through a small gap.

Whatever you end up doing, you'll be doing it in a rain of ATF. Honestly, you think it's all drained and then *sploosh* more comes out.

Ahhh, this all sounds kinda scary to me. I have a friend who's an actual mechanic with Volkswagen. Anything beyond my capabilities goes directly to him. But that can get expensive as they charge like $110 bucks an hour:(

Anyway, thanks for sending the links Growlerbearnz. I'll have a look at these and then decide what I'm going to do. If it's beyond me, I'll give these links to my mechanic friend. He doesn't mind working on my van and he's an excellent Technician.

Thanks again for your input. I'm gonna look at these links now.

Cheers, Phil

It looks easy if you've had the transmission pan off a couple of times, but first time around? Kind of scary. If you do get your mechanic friend to look at it, show him that section from the Volvo page that says you might be able to do it without dropping the valve body- if it's possible, it'll save at least half an hour and possibly a new gasket.

Ok cool. I did print off the one page of how to re & re the cable. I'll make sure I give him this other info as well. I've already warned him that I'm coming up with the van in the near future,, lol.
