H3 Foglight burnt out - root cause?

Post by sealica »

I recently had one of my foglights burn out. I replaced in only a few months ago. When I was changing the bulb I noticed there was a little bit of play with the metal piece (terminal?) that the spade connector attaches to with the black wire. Just wondering if this play could cause the bulb to burn out quicker than usual?

Yes. If the connection is intermittent the filament fatigues prematurely from repeatedly heating up and cooling down.

You might be able to get some vise-grips in there to smush the little pin a bit more, or maybe bend the tab slightly up so it fits the pin a little tighter. Just be gentle, as the cast piece of the housing looks like "pot metal", a cheap and weak alloy.

I doubt the pin is solderable, but it might be worth a try.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.
