Opened the RHS engine hatch today while chasing down more leftovers from the karaoke machine and it looks like I'm missing a part for the air intake. Can anyone confirm?[img]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201712 ... 72e8f6.jpg[/img]

Nope, that is the standard arrangement. Or at least mine and the others I've seen are the same.

What many do not seem to understand is the Starwagon comes stock with a snorkel. The snorkel is within the body and the "missing hose" part is the first spill-out. The second spill-out is at the bottom of the filter assembly, with a one way trap. Quite something, really? Read this thread: Mystery Machine to the rescue. It's a stunning story about this member (Mystery Machine) who drives through a flood zone in Gloucester, England to retrieve this "elderly couple" from a trapped ambulance. It'll give you an idea of what these wagons can do, if handled correctly.

I would call it water/debris separation, not a "stock snorkel." How he made it through such deep water for so long IDK... I would say he was quite lucky.

Although I have never taken the MLB so deep as to the windscreen wipers, as Mystery Machine did, I've been quite lucky as well, a number of times. It pays to keep the door seals lubricated to assist keeping the water out. Typically I haven't gone deeper than three feet and also only have a two inch lift, where the Mystery Machine has four inch lift? All the same, remarkable machines. In the four vids I posted, one is the "Weekend Ride 2" ~ he doesn't have an after market snorkel, either ~ he goes pretty deep ~ and he backs up, see 1:01 in the vid. There is one point that he's winching out of the creek and I suspect that his wagon is stalled, mind it's a pretty steep angle of approach and his window is down, letting the air pocket to escape ~ perhaps that is why he stalled out.

Just a little more info: the petrol-engined L300s actually have the "missing pipe", or at least my 2.4l parts van did. I didn't take a photo though.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Looks like he might have an internal snorkel? I've heard that some will turn the b-pillar into a snorkel and just have a screened inlet visible... looks like there might be one near the top of the window.

I think there is a certain amount of "trapped air" in the filter compartment that helps with accidentally getting in a little deeper than you should, but I would be quite hesitant to rely on it... Isn't the ram air inlet pretty high in that compartment? I can't think of any reason why that wouldn't let water in/air out in that scenario... and how long would it take for the intake to turn that positive pressure into a vacuum?

Got in there yesterday and there is no internal snorkel running up the B-pillar. The intake runs behind and over the filter then elbows into that little bay where it faces the intake. I'll keep that in mind if ever I'm rolling through deep puddles.

I think what SK66 was referring to is an aftermarket snorkel that runs up the B pillar and has a vent cut into the exterior at the top of the B pillar, rather than an exterior pipe running up the side. I don't know how long and in what circumstances the "stock" filter will last, any time I've gone deep (three feet) it's been for short distances like twenty... thirty feet, Mystery Machine on the other hand, he went a mile and an half. I'm wondering if constantly moving forward has any bearing on the workings.
