Suddenly won't start

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

SHE LIVES!!!

So, it's been almost a year and a half since the Deli died... Update since my last post: I didn't enTIREly trust that last mechanic, but was willing to try a new/rebuilt pump, because, it can't hurt, right?. I actually gave him the go-ahead to pull the pump and was going to send it to Rising Sun for a rebuild. Well, it turns out that the mechanic didn't really want to deal with it. After a few months of weekly calls and hearing "it's going in this week" he finally just gave up and called me to bring it somewhere else.

Brought it to my VW diesel guy (Should have brought the van to him in the first place.)

A few days with it and it's running! And driving!

What was the problem? As far as I can tell, I just didn't try hard enough/long enough to start it after replacing the fuel stop solenoid. I think the crux of this was that I needed new batteries. The batteries just weren't cranking FAST enough to get that compression going for a good cold start (with old fuel mind you).

Currently it won't drive over 2xxx RPMS (sometimes it's 2200, sometimes it's 2500, sometimes it's 2800). It just cuts out. I thinking the old fuel and 15 months of no-start probably has something to do with it.

BUT IT RUNS!!!

So, after attempting to jumper the glow plug rail and checking the fusible links... it won’t even crank now. So I did this:

Jumpering those bypassed

Now I’m getting my two relay clicks again upon turning the key on. Still no crank tho.

Ideas?

After the 2 relay clicks put the gearshift into reverse or neutral, then back into park. Then try cranking again. I get no crank every 20 starts or so. The gear shift change remedies that. I think its something to do with me parking on an incline. Might solve your issue.

Good luck.

Mine turned out to be the straight black fusible link and the connectors. The female side was covered in melted wire plastic. Once I jumpered the link and cleaned up the connecters, the old girl cranked and eventually started. I ordered a replacement set of fusible links and will spend some time in the coming days cleaning up all the connections in the battery area. Thank you all and this board for the data to get me on track.

Hi everyone. Similar story to above. Van would crank but wouldn’t start. I pulled my fuel shutoff solenoid (which checked out fine on the bench) and replaced it with an new one. Fixed it! Thanks for all the information on this forum. Really helped me with the troubleshooting.

I'm always envious of what folks do on here. I'm mechanically declined at the best of times and lack the confidence & skills required to do any major work on my van. I have carried out lots of small jobs, but when my injector pump started leaking, I had it removed and sent off to Steven at Rising Sun for a complete rebuild. That was about 5 years ago and it's been working great ever since.

My hat goes off to everyone on here. Especially the ones who are not afraid to attempt their own repairs & share their experiences & outcomes. For all of us, here's to less breakdowns and more miles of smiles:)
