I'd like to freshen up front door armrests, as they are torn a bit etc.
It looks like they are held in place by just two screws:
but after I unscrew them, they seem to be held by something else.
Are there any hidden clips, glue or maybe they just stick to rest of the door because that's what they have been doing for the last twenty-plus years?

I believe they're also screwed from the inside (of the panel). The screws (from the outside) actually hold the panel in place, not much to do with holding the armrest on.

I believe you are right. In that case, after careful consideration I came to conclusion that those armrests are not relly that tattered at all and they can wait until there will be need to do something inside the door
