Clock, Radio, Thermometer: Solved

Post by TRUTHautomotive »

I ran a search and found no resolution to the following symptoms:
Clock: no operation
Thermometer (in guage pod): no operation
Radio (stock): no operation but has illumination
Cigarrette lighter: no operation

checked all fuses, checked the fusable links above the battery for breaks, burns, etc...checked resistance too (0 ohms on all).

hmmm, does anyone have wiring diagrams for these instruments? there must be a common ground or something...
Any thoughts are welcome

I have reviewed them all, except for the german manual. No wiring diagram includes the interior electrical units.

Here's DinoEvo's link

Felix reworked a wiring schematic for the L300. I haven't been able to download it myself but perhaps it will work for you. Felix tells me the file is large and does take awhile for the server to do its job.

I believe Felix has deleted the link. I checked it in the manual download forum and received a 404 page, so I removed the post. The link was a schematic from the Russek manual. I would have thought that those items would fall under the instrument cluster, no? Here is a link to a thread that Maw posted: L300 workshop manual and accessories. This contains the above mentioned schematic. This thread is also found in L300 Shop Manual Downloads, on page two and also contains much of what is contained on page one.

Falco.

P.S.: I can see the link that you posted, Big Bird. The one I was referring to was posted on the DC manuals download page.

Re: Clock, Radio, Thermometer: Getting Closer, maybe...

Post by TRUTHautomotive »

Thanks guys. I'll dig into this tomorrow.

Here is an update on my progress.

Removed radio and connectors on clock. From what I have read about the electrical on these things Red with Black stripe seems to be main power (12V all the time) and the Blue with White stripe is ACC power (12V ignition on).

Checked power on clock and radio connectors (Red Black wire): 12V
Checked ACC power on clock and radio with key on (Blue White wire): 0.551V...huh? (checked using multiple grounds too, same thing)
Switched multimeter to resistance setting: 8.1ohms

Alright, looks like somewhere along the way is ACC power (Blue White wire) shorted to ground. I checked the connector above the fuse box (white connector with the same Red Black and Blue White wires) and observed the same readings.

Does anyone feel like checking this connector quickly and telling me there readings?
[Multimeter black lead to ground (battery, seat bolt, whatever) and read lead back probing blue white wire]

Grins... Glad you discovered this before you completely rebuilt the alternator!

For future reference, you can download and print English labels for your fuse box:
