Re: Coolant gurgling
Bike or scooter I don't see how either of those are functional if you are still working in construction. How are you planning to bring your tools and materials to the customer?
Get a 89-93 Ford Festiva they are available for like $500 and hold a huge amount of cargo for their puny size. My Brother in law used a Festiva as an electrician for years...his Little Giant ladder even fit inside. They hardly use gas and just get liability insurance.
Selling my Festiva was the biggest automotive mistake of my life.

Good point. Cycling and construction aren't exactly congruous.

Re: Coolant gurgling
I'm still using my van. When I get a job that requires labour, I drive my van with trailer. For commuting to the ski store I work at, I'll have a scooter. Most of what I do in construction is project management though.

Coolant gurgling / scooter purchase
Well, I bought a 2002 Yamaha BWS with 8000km on it. It hits 75kph easily and can get up to 80 on a moderate downhill thanks to an upgraded exhaust.

It is quite fun, albeit very cold right now! Thanks for pointing out that I can still say I'm driving RHD.SquamptonRyan wrote:Boom!! Sick! Super fun hey? And it's still right hand drive! Get it? Haha.

I drove yesterday and was dressed very warmly, but today was just too cold, so I took the van.mark wrote:Congratulations on the new wheels nxski (I would suggest that you dress warmly!)

Get a set of grip warmers off ebay. When hands are toasty it makes the rest of you feel warm. And you can get all kinds of mod kits to make that thing scream.

Re: Coolant gurgling / scooter purchase
Good idea! I've heard they only last to 20,000km though, which doesn't seem great and makes me not want to invest much into it.

Re: Coolant gurgling / scooter purchase
For wheels you can get for $1200, dirt cheap insurance, and 100 mpg, 20 k is pretty good! Takes quite awhile to rack that up on a scooter. You can.get heated grips for 50 bucks and well worth it if you ride all year.

Re: Coolant gurgling / scooter purchase
$1400 for the scooter, $670 insurance, tax and license plate, maintenance and fuel for a vehicle that will be a throw-away after a year. I'm not sure that the math ads up to being cheaper than driving the van, but we'll see. At least I have another vehicle to drive if one needs repairs and hopefully I can upgrade to a motorcycle when the scooter dies.

I like how your plan to save money has now become a solid defensible justification to waste money. That's what living life is all about.nxski wrote:$1400 for the scooter, $670 insurance, tax and license plate, maintenance and fuel for a vehicle that will be a throw-away after a year.
