Muffler fixing options.

Hello everyone,

So, the last part of the muffler just explode on our way from Vancouver.

After a look underneath the van, it appears that the pipe is cut just after the "muffler" or the "silencer" ? And don't know what kind of fixing can be done.
I read and researched on the forum, and it looks like most people here are having some kind of custom work, where the muffler shops are welding new pipes, and assembling different parts.
I don't know if anything can be welded there, and if it is going to be efficient.

So, regarding the pictures I took, I'd like some advices on what can be done.

Is ordering a complete muffler line is a good option, and replace it from the rusty bolted connection that is in between the silencer and the exhaust from the engine ? What could be the cost of the part, and where could it be ordered ? Knowing I would do the fixing.

Or, is going to a muffler shop so as to have the parts welded together is another alternative, that might be cheaper and more reliable ?

I changed a line, back in France, but it was easy to find the parts for the car I was using. But here... and with a Delica things seems a little bit different.

I would just have a new one bent at a muffler shop, it's not very expensive. You could always put on a larger side exhaust and get more power, better fuel economy and it would be dirt cheap (the downside is that it would be noisy). If you wanted this option but quieter, you could add a muffler as well. I've tried both options and prefer my straight pipe. It cost me $70 and the last muffler rattled itself apart so I wanted something cheaper that would last longer.

It probably can, the exhaust system doesn't look long for this world though, so it may end up being wasted money.

Well, that depends on if you would replace with the same thing. You can get a SS side exhaust with muffler for about $650, a full length SS for $800, a straight pipe side exhaust for $70, a side exhaust with muffler for $120 and I don't know about a non-SS full length because I never looked into getting one. If you're replacing the whole thing, have the muffler shop use 2.25" diameter pipe with mandrel bending or 2.5 without mandrel.

sorry but, as a non canadian, and Delica newbie... can you explain me what means SS ... when you are talking about the exhaust ?

I have just done mine on an L400. I the 2.5" version with a side dump. Cost me $300 total with labor and all. Labor and pipes cost $200. Muff $100.

So worth it.
