Can Alternator Brushes be Replaced?

I have a '93 Pajero 2.8 and I started getting the 3 warning lights (fuel filter, A/T Temp and Battery) which apparently means the alternator isn't charging properly. How long do I have before it's totally dead?

Can the brushes be replaced easily or does it need a full rebuild? It cost me 20 bucks and 4 minutes to remove two bolts from the alternator in my old bmw 325 and i didn't even have to remove the alternator. I hope this is true for Mitsubishi alternators too.

This is common.

It will either be the voltage regulator and/or the diodes.

Usually a re&re ranges from the low end $150 to high end $700 if you are getting ripped off.

Average cost if you pull it and take it to an alternator shop to rewind/voltage reg. should be close to $150.
