I've been thinking about making this post for ages, but just never got around to posting this idea...I have owned my vruck now for over a year, and I have only ever off-roaded once! 1.5 times if you count the time I got lost up near Englishman River Frankly, I have no idea where to go on the island for some beginner-type off roading experiences. Whenever I check a trail that looks promising, it's gated! If you live on the southern island you will know exactly what I mean. So, if anyone is willing to head up island some weekend with a grp we could hit some trails that some of you old "islanders" know about...just bouncing this idea around atm, would love to hear what you all think

I haven't done much off roading myself but I went about 4 weeks ago around the Jordon River area. Had an awesome time and will be going back hopefully soon. I have to admit it felt a bit dodgy at times in there because I was by myself and I had no recovery gear. That's inexperience for you. It took me a while to find these trails because most of the trails from Sooke to Jordon River were gated. It sounds like our experience with the Delicas are similar. I picked up my L400 about a year and half ago. BTW I am based in Victoria. If you want to do a day trip out there one weekend let me know.

Absolutely! If next weekend works for you we can set a time & place to meet and see if we can find any more forum goers who want to come...would be pretty cool to get a Deli-train running through Victoria! I am a shift worker and my next two weekends are free, so i am pretty flexible.

Sorry can't make it this weekend. I already have plans as I'm out mountain biking with some buddies.

I might be able to go the following weekend but I will have to confirm next week.

On the way to Jordon River look for a sign that says Sandcut Creek. There will be open gate around there on the right and it will take you onto some logging roads. The view at the top is pretty cool looking out towards the Juan De Fuca Strait. When you get near the top you will be driving amongst a whole area full of clear cutting.

When you are done in there you can get back on to No14 and drive west a few more kms and you will see another open gate on the right and that should be Forby. I did part of the loop on that logging road. Next time I go in there I want to drive all the way to Bear Creek Reservoir. If you pass the area where all the surfers are you have gone to far.

Gonna head out there this saturday. I will be sure to take lots of pictures and hope the weather stays nice

Well the weather wasn't all that bad heading up Sandcut, but the rain and the wind really picked up after when we discovered Fore Bay...Headed up well past the clear-cutting and the trail ended as the road washed out a little, and we were too spooked to give it a shot...thanks for the info, the trails up in that area were tonnes of fun!

Glad to hear you had a good time out there. Would have liked to join you but I had other commitments last weekend.

The road that was washed out, was that the loop section in Forby? When you entered Forby did you follow the power lines to the top of the hill? When I was there a month ago driving the loop there was a section where the road had washed away and I had to get out of that area in reverse as there was nowhere for me to turn my van around. The route had a big rock face and hill on the right side of the trail and the left side was a drop about 50 to 100'. I have to admit it felt really sketchy driving that section.

Do you have any interest in going back next month?

BTW, as soon as I saw your photo of you L400 I realized we met last year when I visited you to check your tires.

I'd like to get in on some mild off roading too.

I drove down a really bumpy gravel road going to Sombrio last summer. Once up a steep dirt pile. That's about it.

I'll keep my eyes on this forum for the next time you guys are heading out.

Thanks for the invite. It was a bit short notice. I did end up going out that way on Sunday but it was for some surfing.

How was it? What kind of terrain are you going over? Anything impassable for a stock set up?

Hopefully you can see this map well enough...the big loop in the centre of the map is what we ended up doing on Sunday...I am pretty new at this off-roading thing but the Deli managed to show up an new, lifted F150...well sorta anyways, with a stock delica i think you might have a couple close-calls on a couple crossing as far as clearance goes. There are some spots which are sorta hairy, but we were grouped up and had some recovery gear so we were pretty fearless
