Nothing like a little salt & vinegar with the fish & chips... smiles.

Good on you, Driven. A few Delioids on the mainland have been talking about something similar in regard to doing a documentary on these vehicles and what they are capable of, including the alternative fuel issues. When you get back with your film footage.... or digital chips.... whatever.... We ought to hook up, perhaps we can work together on this, who knows.
By the way, did you get my PM?

Falco.

Good luck with your trip,

This is Kristopher, founder of fillup4free.com. If you need any help finding WVO on your trip through the U.S., let me know.

You'll meet plenty of critics who hit below the belt and when you aren't looking, as you've observed here, but remain true to your path and ideals. If they can muddy the issues and get you going, then they consider it a victory. Just state ytour case cleary, calmy, and repeatedly.

Any intelligent person will see truth.

Oh yeah, if you can pass through Castleton, VT, then I'd be happy to set up a viewing of your vehicle and host a little event about your tour through Castleton State College and the Vermont College Network. Just let me know...

Hi Kristopher,

I will PM you regarding how fillup4free can help. I will follow up with Kahala Corp tomorrow, and let you know how much help we will need from such a great site like fillup4free! If Kahala Corp doesn’t follow suit like New York Fries then we might need A LOT of help.

Thanks for the advice on how to handle critics. I am aware and constantly reminded by my better half of how I sound. Generally a forum like this is just practice and a good outlet for me to include a little drama in my life. I doubt I would appear as hostel if I was being interviewed in person, nor would I want to exhibit myself in such a fashion.
I was honestly hoping for some criticism on this forum so I could play around with my thoughts towards the naysayers. Regardless of how Andy feels, he is just playing into what I wanted. His feelings on the matter are trivial.

Duly noted advice though, I shall remember such wise words and put them into use.

Thanks!

Still nothing about the Deli!!! It's not like this is a Delica forum or anything, must have accidentally stumbled on to the "self-important-gonna-teach-all-a-lesson.ca" by mistake. Have fun - hope your vehicle is well prepared.

I'll give you some good advice - take your Deli to Glen at Coombs Country Auto and have done everything he recommends. This will pay off in the end!! :-D
Cheers!!

Indeed, I already had his information, and am booking something with him this week. I hear he's one of the few Delica guru's you can trust.

Cheers on such a kind piece of information... Honestly, not expected.

Hope for humanity after all

"Hey Tyson,

My name is Juan Pablo, I know Cloe through my father who is a friend of her mom. I got the e-mail from my dad about driving to sustain, it sounds like a fantastic adventure. However, I just wanted to give you a heads up about some criticisms you might encounter regarding biofuels.

1. Some argue that the GHGs emissions from combusting biofuels are the same or worse than from fossil fuels. Especially if land use issues aren't addressed.

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/a ... /5867/1238
2. Respiratory health effects from biofuels don't appear to be any different than from gas, such as asthma.
3. Have you consider doing a carbon footprint of your trip? What are you planning to consume. How much carbon is needed to produce it?

I am no hard core environmentalist but if your aim is to raise awareness and maybe get some sponsors, I think you should get the details.

Have a great trip,

Juan Pablo"

Juan,

I am fully aware of criticism that we might and already have encountered. This subject is close to home with me, as it is my major. I should be able to defend Driven to Sustain quite effectively, even against the most bias scientist.

We are offsetting our carbon emissions times two (X2). Carbon credits are another great example of the systems available to most people on this earth. We are aware that waste vegetable oil isn’t particularly better then convention fuels, although it is the alternative fuel that’s widely available to us. The key statement with Diven to Sustain is: “We understand that our WVO vehicle does not offer wide-ranging environmental solutions, but it does highlight the fact that the public does have sustainable choices in our society. WVO is not practical for most people to power their vehicles.” We are not trying to green wash anything; it’s simply the most practical means.

When referring to our trip, you need to be careful in using the word “biofuel”. That is in theory what we are using, but when referring to the corporate lingo biofuels means: biodiesel, mixed ethanol, rendered WVO with ethanol, etc.

Waste vegetable oil is just that, straight pure waste oil.

If you would like to read more about what my critics have to say on exactly this matter, you can visit a forum I frequently visit to practice my bantering.

Thanks a lot for the advice, and if you have any more concerns or inquiries, email me at any time.

Driven, I hope you document this trip on this site, in a thread separate to this one (perhaps in "Member Trips"). I also think that even though Waste Vegetable Oil may, or may not have a similar carbon footprint as Dino-Diesel, it is still getting used twice (and promoting the restaurant industry in doing so).
There was an article I read in the National Geographic on a bio-fuel that was being made outside Phoenix in Arizona, from algae. Where most corn based bio-fuel crops produce 50 barrels per acre, per season ~ this article claimed that on the same acre these people were producing 50 barrels per day, sometimes twice. This strikes me as a potentially longer term solution to the world crisis. However, if something gets burned ~ it gets burned. That is to say there will be carbon residue.
Another thing to mention about WVO is that when they cooked in it; all the fat from the chicken breasts and what not that got cooked in that oil left a great deal of body residue which is why the vehicle smells like a barbecue when it drives by; also why the vehicle goes through a type of rigor mortis when it shuts off and cools down because body fat tissues are meant to operate at a certain temperature, &c....
All the same, the diesel engine uses a different style of burning to the gasoline engine, which may have a virtue in itself as I notice that the cardon doesn't appear to be so airborne.

Sorry to nitpick but that is not entirely true. Burning is a Chemical reaction of a fuel (diesel, wvo, wood, hydrogen...), heat and oxygen. The emissions of this vary depending on the fuel, when you burn hydrogen you get water and no carbon as there was not carbon to start out with.

I am lead to understand that it is an atomic thing. Speaking as a carbon based unit, I don't think carbon is all bad :-) .
