April 21st, 4WDABC 2nd Annual East Stave Lake Cleanup

Post by jessef »

When: April 21st

Where: Lost Creek FSR at East Stave Lake

What: 4WDABC 2nd Annual East Stave Lake Cleanup

Who: 4WD BC clubs, Jeep/Mitsubishi/Nissan/Toyo's..

Why: Give a helping hand to our local environment/trails

See you guys n' gals there (who can make it ~ the more Delica's the better). :M
The 4WDABC is hosting a cleanup of the Lost Creek FSR in the East Stave Lake area on Saturday, April 21st, beginning at 9 am.

The staging area will be at the Davis Lake turnoff which is approximately 3 kilometers after Sylvester Road turns to gravel, on the left. 9 am will be the meet and greet along with general orientation and 10 am will be the cleanup start.

Thus far, we have commitments for 2 dump trucks to transport the garbage to the Mission dump. Mission has once again waived the tippage fees for our event.

Last year, the 1st annual cleanup was an outstanding success with over 110 volunteers collecting over 18 tons of garbage and steel.

We look forward to you joining us for another fabulous day of camaraderie, fun and an all round rewarding day of making our back country a better place to enjoy our pastime.

see you there.

Thanks to Mat for the write up.

Fantom wrote:To say the sun was shining down on us would be an understatement. It was a great day indeed, starting from the best weather we had this year so far and ending in the amazing turn out of volunteers and the staggering amount of garbage collected. The dump trucks were having issues keeping up (not for a lack of trying) and by the end of the day it was impossible to even guess at how much got hauled out of there. It was my first clean up and I have to admit that I was shocked, amazed and very moved by the energy, drive and devotion of all the people who worked so hard at cleaning up something they had nothing to do with. There was a woman there that recently was in surgery and should have likely stayed at home, one of the guys had a nasty sprain and was crawling up and down ravines to collect trash, this was amazing! One gentleman (Jim) that I met showed up in Little Iraq and even though he was the only one there at the time he started to clean up a place that would have take 20+ people the entire day, when I got there he didn't seem fazed by the amount of stuff and just kept at it. You all did amazing work up there!

I'll be able to make it. Should convince some friends to come.

Last year was an exceptional day. I think it was the only day that the sun was out in the first four months of the year.

I hope to see a sea of Delicas out to the cleanup.

Cheers,

Hello,
Yes, last year was amazing indeed, I do hope this year we have as many if not more volunteers helping out and less garbage to deal with. Each year we hope the message gets across to one more person that it is not a garbage dump out there. Hope to see some of you out there. Thanks!

Also, we'll have a bunch of Backroader magazines there, both the new ones as well as the previous issue if you missed it but wanted a copy.
Thank you

I've got it pencilled in; dragging the kids out the door around 7.

Hopefully the dog won't get eaten by a bear... :-)

Is it faster to take the #7 all the way there, or the #1 to Sumas then head North? (looks like an extra 15 kms, but #1 will be quick that time of day)

Well, the sun was shining down upon the seas of spent shotgun cartridges and bags of grow-op dirt, but around 85 folks showed up and pulled out plenty o' crap including a full-size freezer with a dead deer in it (!) and a complete but somewhat charred hulk of a Dodge Durango.

They did a great job of organizing things; props to TimmyH's, Sysco and Freybes for supplying the calories, the numerous equipment vendors for supplying two dump trucks and a backhoe free for the day (amazing) and to the 4WDABC folks for setting it up. Great job and a great bunch of folks! Not many Delicas there tho' ... :-(

My camera decided to have a stroke on the way up there, but no doubt there'll be great pics on the 4WDABC website.
