Hello,

Could you please explain what a 4.5 / B equivalent means. I understand the auction ratings so I'm more curious about the equivalent part.

Hmm, I dont think he did. I read your post and thought the exact same thing. I mean it is either
4.5/B or it isn't... why the equivalent?

I believe this is how it goes:
4.5 exterior
B interior

Let me explain further: If I decide my own vehicle is a 5.0/B equivelant and not a reputable auction house, is my car a 5.0 / B even though an auction house graded it as a 3.5 / C? The point in question is the term equivelant, it sounds like he just made it up.

This is what a 4.5 / B looks like:

In my opinion, the auction grade (whatever it is in Japan) is not relevant to Canadians.

I have imported many JDM's over the past 4 years and none of them have ever turned out to be the labeled auction grade in reality.

Nice Delica but the auction grade is really something that would just confuse buyers here.

Good luck with the sale. :M

So by that theory should I buy an auction vehicle graded "R" which tells me the car has been in a major accident and then repaired. I have found the auction sheets to be accurate, when you look at the sheet as a whole and not just the number/letter grade. Granted the auction grading has become more loose but I think Canadians need a reference to go by if they are buying from Japan and sight unseen. If the vehicle is here, your right just come to your own conclusion when you see it in person.
In this case the seller is leveraging the Japanese system to sell his vehicle, with the word equivelant being used. Maybe he should say this vehicle is a 9 of 10 and then we all now its his own opinion.
At the end of the day I don't really care but there are many people mis-representing JDM's all the time, if someone chooses to use the information that I shared and it helps them great, if they don't then thats all good too.

*thread hijack*

My last post here since it's a nice looking Delica and his price is a good one as well.

Regarding the Auction grade, I agree with 39Ronin that it is a good base when purchasing IN Japan.

Once the vehicle is here, the grading in Japan is really irrelevant because their grading system is different than ours (ie. auction grade can vary from house to house ... one Grade 4 can by much worse than a Grade 3).

And like you said, once it is here, properly inspected and stated as 'excellent running condition, 9/10 appearance, etc...' that specific description is what matters to North American buyers.
