Man I'd love to have that Ascot over here, big thumpers are so much fun. Street legal and in good running shape, without the slightest concerns for parts matching, they would sell for up to $5000 Cdn here IF they were fully registered. Well, that can cost $200o to almost $3000 unless a matching registered frame can be found.

Cheers

I rebuilt a bike a few years back. Well, it was almost 10 years by now. The seller was a buddy and he never got around to giving me the papers.

I finally finished the bike and asked for the paperwork. I even brought the bike home. Every time I went over to my buddy's house I asked for the papers. "I'll get em for you soon. They are easy to get." Eventually I brought the bike back to him because I had lost faith that I'd get the paperwork.

After 4-1/2 years I had put in $1600 and something like 150hrs to this bike, and I had no paperwork. By now, my friend was so ashamed that he had resorted to blaming ME for his not having produced the papers. Let me tell you, it takes a whole lot of grace to swallow that kind of crap.

After 7 years he finally admitted that it was his fault that he had not produced paperwork. By now, I had accepted that I wasn't getting the bike. I kinda wanted my $1600 back though.

Just recently - coming on 10 years - he needed to downsize in a hurry and he tracked down the papers. When we compared them to the frame, he realized it was for the wrong bike.

I suggested that he owed me $1600 worth of motorcycle and he agreed and apparently I'm getting another, better, bike with papers after all, maybe in another 10 years.

Now this is mostly a testament to the reliability of this particular friend insofar as paperwork matters go, or perhaps my patience. But its my opinion that if you want to sell a vehicle you should do the leg work to get the paperwork in order first. It might even be the law, who knows.

In fact, I'd be interested in the bike myself if you can produce paperwork.

Ascot - I would love to have this bike, who ever gets the bike I would be willing to pay cash and trade my 225XT as well for it. I had planned on making a rack for the XT to go on the back on my Deli but sometime sacrifices must be made hehe

If I had the time to get the paper work I would sell it with collector plates for closer to $2000.

I have gotten papers for my 1963 Jeep FC170 (took a while as ICBC had the serial number wrong when they went to computer (TYPO!!!)). ICBC was great about it. Found the papers figured out the typo, I provided info on Willys serial numbers showing that their number never existed, a photo of the vin plate. Two days later new papers came in the mail. Took 2.5 months due to the typo.

I got papers for a 1973 CL350 in a month through ICBC with sending the previous owner a register letter that was returned unopened. Took 1 month.

Personally if I am going to run a vehicle on the street I do not do any work until I have the papers in my hand  . ICBC has a office that for $7.00 supplies the last registered owner and what you need to do to get the papers. It is a simple process if you are willing to take the time (~month) :-D . Did you ever try to get papers for the bike the serial number did not match through ICBC  ?

If the XL500 is used as a dirt bike it does not need the papers. I got the bike from the family that owned it and used it to explore FSR near there cabin. Older guy with kids and a nice house. I bought it for parts for the Ascot, but is way to nice to part. The guy I got it off said his brother had the papers (I had no interest in tracing the papers as I was going to part it out).

My price is low because it does not have papers. With papers I would be selling for way more $$$. The XL600 forks and wheels are worth that price! Plus the tank, motor, and muffler if parted would be worth that again. I just do not have the heart to destroy an original dual sport in this shape.

I suspect the XL will be gone by the weekend (I have a few people offering more then I am asking, but it is not sold till cash in hand (non Delica members so I will not hold it without a deposit).

IF someone intends to run the XL500 as a street bike I highly recommend finding the papers before spending $$ on it.
