Expedition vehicle - Fuso w/ custom-built camper

For those who are looking for a camper version of their Mitsubishi, and don't really want to spend the driveway-time building it, check out this Fuso with custom-built camper for sale in Victoria. From the remainder of the pictures, it is a true camper in that it can be removed from the back of the truck, leaving one with a flat-bed to haul stuff around.

You think $150,000 is reasonable? That strikes me more as a get rich quick scheme. I thought perhaps it was a typo and was meant to say "$15,000".

It is custom-built...

It got stuck in the ditch on the Mt. Cain road for 2 days until the grader hauled it out. They didn't chain up to go downhill, that weekend was the first time I've ever put chains on my Delica, the road was glazed ice.
Those wide tires look good, but their useless in snow.

One downside aside from the price is weight. You're limited in snow/mud/sand, etc... compared to a smaller rig like a Delica.

Usually people that sell rigs like these are one's that have either already completed a journey in it or will not pursue the journey for what it was intended for.

It's a cool rig though. You can see some nice overlanding vehicles like this one averaging around the 40-50k mark. 150k may seem excessive but who knows what custom work has been done.

The one thing about a vehicle like this is not quite the price but the customization suited to the original builder/owner. The person buying it will have to have similar taste in design/layout/functionality as this is not a run of the mill overlanding rig.

On the other hand, one can buy a 4x4 Fuso 2002/05 for around 10-15k depending on your hunting and then drop in another 30k in custom fabrication/upgrades suiting you personally totalling a third of this one.

The Mitsubishi Fuso FG 4x4 is a popular choice as the chassis for an expedition camper.

Carl Hunter's expedition camper, a Bigfoot travel trailer mounted on a Fuso FG 140 4x4 chassis, is a well-known example.


Carl and his wife, Mary, decided to drive around the world in 2002. Carl designed, sourced, and constructed this vehicle in 90 days. The truck and cabin were virtually trouble-free during that 6 month, 22,000 mile journey.


Bruce Hersey mounted a 17 foot Casita trailer as a camper body. The Casita is 16 inches narrower than the Bigfoot trailer, so it doesn't extend beyond the width of the cab.


Australia's John Learoyd constructed this adventure camper. The single rear wheels are 225/100 R16 Michelin XZL. John also replaced the stock suspension with air bags and longer springs.


Kim and Don Greene designed this camper. The shell was built by Unicell in Toronto. Kim and Don are currently in Australia, after driving throughout South America and across New Zealand.

Expeditioncampers member "Jeffrey" mounted an S&S camper to the flatbed on his Fuso FE. The vehicle is just slightly over 18 feet long. The electric jacks make quick work of lifting the camper off the flatbed.

So you're paying $20k for the Fuso at most and $130,000 for a minimal box shell on the rear.

I'd say a bit overpriced for sure. Its a big custom job, but offers little in the "comforts" department usually seen on expo rigs.. Another of my "thoughts".. For 150k,.... I'd say it should have a cab pass through..
Nice work, and looks great, but maybe for 1/2 that price, even then, I've seen some outfitted rigs go for less...

And the camper on that one is actually furnished! Much nicer, although the price is still seemingly steep. How much are these Fuso - just the truck?
