Jesse's new ride the 'White Elephant'

Post by jessef »

History :
The Nissan Patrol is a four-wheel drive SUV that has been in production since 1951 (first manufactured for military use).

The vehicle is a direct competitor of the Toyota Land Cruiser and over the lifetime of the model has had a modest amount of military use as a light support vehicle, light reconnaissance and patrol vehicle and staff car.

The Patrol is available across the world from Australia to South America and from Europe to the Middle East and it is well supported.

The Y60 (GQ) version of the vehicle is currently still in production as a military vehicle across the Middle East and Asia.

The United Nations (UN) is also a good customer with several versions of the Nissan Patrol in use as a convoy and support vehicle.
It's a fully loaded, 1995 Safari Kingsroad w/factory turbo, rear diff locker, 12/24V cig lighters, rear beer cooler, 'camping' edition with bed/sink in the back, 12V all electronics except for 24V starter.

White is a rare option color (see them on UN Safari's) and cloth seats is a special order instead of leather seats.

Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I cannot recommend this guy enough. Derek Weldon at pacificcoastjdm . He is a fellow canadian living in Japan as a honest exporter.

He is extremely thorough and goes above and beyond what other exporters do in terms of communicating the tiniest detail to you.

Quote from him:
I sold my first ever Nissan Safari and fell
in love with it. It's just such an awesome, classically rugged, manly ride... That nice inside. The Land Cruiser steals a lot of the thunder from these but it deserves a hand for being awesome. Thanks Jesse for the purchase. You are awesome.

I got about 8 minutes of video and maybe 160 pictures for you. I had to use two memory cards to catch all the awesomeness.

No surprises really but you have converted me to the ways of the Safari.

Good news, engine seems super strong and the vehicle has a great look and presence.

are you *bleeping* kidding me!

that has got to be the ugliest POS ever to hit this website, looks like a 4x4 white hearse
- do tell what on that is remotely close to nice about that setup (except the camper stuff)

......... having said that, I'm sure Jesse will carve off the excess pieces and turn that current POS looking safari into "somethin perty"

Mega "potential" on that bad boy, can't wait to see the end result........ nice (eventually)

yep.

The white didn't appeal to me until I looked at the military/ambulance and UN kitted out one's. Then the idea's came. Image

All the chrome will be stripped off and picture the following satin black: wheel arch flares, front grill, all trim, black wheels w/33" Duratrac's, tubular roof rack, tube bumpers front/rear and sliders. Once done it will look completely different. Same like my old one which looked like a real black hearse when I first got it due to the length of the rig. :-D

no hard top/high roof. I'm going this route planned for the summer if time permits as the Safari highroof is a perfect candidate.

Nice find. Is that a factory turbo?

What are you doing with the other Safari? If you need a place to park it you can keep it at my place in the rust free Okanagan. I'll even drive it around to keep the seals all in tip top shape for you. 8-)

95-96 Safari's many came with a factory turbo and the 5spd I built up went to a fellow in Kamloops. He was originally looking at L400's but wanted the brute durability of the Safari.

I will be building this one up almost identical to my old one except a few changes.

Also white Safari's can be made to look ... 8-)

depends on prespectives and opinions and that was the most probable idea that jesse would build her up and the part about the POS to ever hit this site :-(
well i guess you havent seen what has hit this site in terms of vehicles..

:-) like i said nice ride jesse good luck with the import mumble jumble..

Hey Jesse how many of those tubular front bumpers are you going to make?

I just made two. One for David and one for myself (that stayed with my 5spd).

This one may be different. I'm not sure if I will keep a permanently mounted winch or use a cradle that can be inserted into either front/rear tube bumpers.

I don't think I'll make more than the one. I don't have the luxury of time I used to have for fabricating. We'll see when that time comes, most likely march/april.
