90 Pajero Build thread

Post by cruisn06 »

I figured I would add my wagon up in this section, so you can follow my build as I prep the wagon for its next huge trip.
Factory I drove it across australia, what a trip!! I still have to do a loop, which is tougher hence the mods.

Then hoping if funds are where they are supposed to be to ship it to brazil for january 2013 drive to the southern toip, then up to alaska, then back track a bit back to home aka edmonton alberta.

Since I have already started this build thread on other sites, I will jsut do a daily update until caught up.

From the start!!

Did a bit more work to the Pajero. added a shelf in the back to cook off. got a ARB bullbar for a case of corona and now have 41mm foam cell shocks. only fronts are installed as I am waiting for my lift springs.

How does the fridge run? That is ~ how is it powered? Are you using a separate house battery?
Skukum Paj, Crusin ~ looks really stable on those dunes.

Fridge runs of 240v or 12v I am actually using it in my rental place right now. its keeping ice cream at -15c and pickles at 2c on the other side. works perfect. low consumption, it uses 3.2amps @ 30% duty cycle.

I will be installing a 105amp hour battery into the beast with a battery isolator to control it. as you will see as I add more photos of the goodies.

New tough dog rear springs, and 41mm foam cell shocks.

I love getting mail!!!

Image

Well I got my lift installed today, 50mm toughdog kit.

50mm medium duty springs - good for 300kgs of weight in the rear.
41mm foam cell shocks on all corners

It started off great installing springs and shocks in the rear....

then it took a turn for the worst, I get underneath to crank up the torsion bars and find that 1 side is already cranked to the max... but no achieving anylift..

Run to the wreckers and get a spare for 110. auz dollars

start installing new bar.... removing the front bolts caused them to all strip..

Walk to bolt shop in blazing heat with no clouds in the sky..

get 2 dollar bolt and return. finish lift.
45mm front lift so far, will turn it up another 10mm max to level it out a bit
the rear is at 70mm lift right now till it settles. I am very happy with it.

The rear:
Image

All done, with exception of settling and 10mm front raise to go.

Image

I guess a before photo is needed to
Image

and leveled out:
Fixed the front end lift issue, got it as level as I can safely do with torsion bar fronts. the back should sag about 10mm still.

Well, it seems the diesel is to fuel of choice for long range touring, let alone dealing with water. I ended up picking up a 2.5L turbo diesel wagon this weekend to swap motors with. 500 bucks needs a head gasket and a new clutch. easy enough.

donor pajero:
Image

Well, got a bit more done to the Pajero today. mounted the fuse box for power, and redid the roofliner, well a partial anyways, might jsut go the rest of the way now, I like the new colour better. its easy enough to install. I wil touch up the sides, that was my fault for not making sure it was 100% centered upon install... oops

Well, got a little more done today, I started off with cleaning up my wheel wells and cleaning the wheels since they have been neglacted quite badly.

The wheel wells show no rust, but the old coating was chipping away and I figured it was time to get in there with a wire wheel and peel the rest away then recoat.
turned out not to bad, I am happy with the looks.

Wheel cleaning: This part I like, they turned out amazing. im scared someone will pinch them now... *shifty eyes*

Before:

After:

Image

Start of fabbing up a drawer system, using 25mm square tube 1.6mm wall. very light, but strong to work with.

Image

Will be back in the shop tomorrow to get more done on the drawer system. hope to have it carpeted by tomorrow. the drawers will ahve to wait a bit more. still sourcing sliders.

Pretty happy with todays progress, got the top of the drawer system finished, which is a miricle in itself as I cannot do carpentry to save my life... but give me some steel and I can make a work of art.. intersting... LOL

Started with a test fit:

Image

Then I did some carpeting:

Installed:

little side doors:

That is enough for tonight. More to follow in the next day.

What did you coat the wheel wells with?
Nice job on the piano hinged hatches on your platform. How much would you say the complete platform weighs?

Falco.

I will never tell!!!! muahahha
okay I might, you seem like a cool bunch, I used eagle rubberized undercoatings. works great. will test it out really good on my next trip in 2 weeks, if its running, as I will see about 700km of the work corrugations you can imagine.. and that sprays rocks everywhere.

I would say the platform weighs in at 20lbs tops. with drawers I can see it topping out at 50lbs all up.

More updates!!! casue people love updates, or would they be olddates... sicne they have already been postsed.. some one ask philosoraptor for me.

New goodies for the wagon, A complete front end rebuild less bushings. LOL might order a new set up since I am in there. not sure though. either way tight steering will be nice.

Image

Today was a good day, still collecting parts right now. but that is still good.

Got a deep cycle battery, 105amp hour heavy duty
Image

And an isolator to control the dual battery setup:
Image

Relay, this part was free!! thanks to the electricians at work for this one, it is to control the pressure switch that will run my air compressor and tank setup. I have a spare air con pump, not sure if I want a belt driven pump that can really crank out the cfm's or run an arb electric compressor.
