The plan is to use them as a place to put our books after reading in bed. I don't want anything loose near the subs while driving or the rattling will get rediculous.

What about ye olde mini bungee/elastic cords for holding the books in place? Worked great on the boat.

Might I suggest speaker grills for your subs? I would have gone through 17 speakers had I not had one installed on the 12" sub in my van. I think they cost about $10. You never know when stuff is gonna be getting tossed carelessly into the van, or you need to pack things in and against them, or you have a bad dream and put a fist/foot through those purdy speakers :-D

Things still rattle when they're bungee'd in place unfortunately.

I'm looking into some speaker grills, I don't like the generic ones but can't seem to find anything else that fits Sony and doesn't require that I order them online.

Jigsaw puzzles rattle. Books don't rattle (but they can rattle some cages). It was just a thought.

Anything that can move will rattle when in close proximity to my subs. :-D

Today was the last day of mods before my trip!

- Re-installed the transmission cooler so the heads of the attachments no longer get in the way of the fan (makes a nice whirring sound now).
- Put a mud flap in behind the transmission cooler
- Moved the cheap lever to the front seat, installed a more colour co-ordinated and more accurate level in the back
- Took Hermione in for Aircare and passed with flying colours
- Dropped almost $2400 insuring my van until June of next year (luckily I'm only at a 10% surcharge now :-D
- Had lunch using my coffee table for the first time and I was very pleased!
