Hello from New York...

Post by Furi »

Seems there are a lot of recent US owners. Hopefully there will be enough in proximity to warrant a meet. I didn't see any updates on the US meet up thread.

Picked up my 1990 L300 last month from Vancouver B.C. and hoping to start a camper conversion soon. Lots of projects.

I will share my US import/registration experience in the proper thread but wanted to say hello to the community and thank everyone for their input on the site. Lots of great information be it on technical issues, advice, dealers, etc. Wish I would've read up more before purchasing.

But to our neighbors to the north: if you ever wanted to feel like a rockstar, and see if you like it or not, drive south of the border and stay for a day or two. Its ridiculous.

Congratulations,
Am in Florida with my fairly new Delica. Yours looks great! Look forward to eventually meeting up with other Delica owners in the US. We are growing lol. Can't wait to see what your conversion looks like. Have fun,

Thanks both. Be nice to know where delicaians are in US; for a chance to meet up during travels or possible meet ups. Created this google map and dropped a pin. Feel free to update.
I did: username, city, state.
If you don't have a google account post here and I can add you.

Jere1960...
As Arnold said in predator "I see you!". Looks good.
I'll post the link in American/US thread to hopefully get more locations.

I know this thread is a couple months old, but we just picked up our first Delica today. We're in Atlanta, which according to the map puts us right in the middle of the crowd, with the exception of CO. Looking forward to getting to know everybody.

Congrats on your new rig and welcome to the community :) The middle of the map was awfully empty so thanks for adding.
And get ready for a lot of attention; wanted or not.

:) That needs to be included in the Technical Reference Library! So far my response to people who say "wow, your steering wheel is on the wrong side" has been "No! Its on the RIGHT side!!"(sounding like Keith Richards looking down the ridge of my nose.)

Ha! That's my line. I get self-righteous prigs that come up to inform me "Your steering wheel is on the wrong side of your vehicle." To which I typically reply "Ironically, it's on the right side of my vehicle." Sometimes I'll reply "Oh my god, you're right! Do you think I should see a doctor?"

Then there are those that even today, nine years later, whom tell me that these are very dangerous, top heavy vehicles, that if you turn the ignition too hard ~ you run a risk of flipping the vehicle (like they are specialists on the matter). Yet they have a hard time understanding when I tell them that I've driven my wagon at a forty-five degree lateral angle (side trails on the Whipsaw Road).

Then there are those whom self-righteously inform me that it is because of people like me buying these foreign imports that the economy is in the dumps. Ironically, they are often standing beside their Toyota when they say this and I point that out to them, to which they reply that it was made in Canada (in my case). Then I say to them that no, they're made in Japan, then assembled in Canada. That usually shuts them up for a while.

Having said that, you're going to find that the majority will think you have somehow attained alien technology and want to start hanging out with you ~ oh, the life of a rock-Starwagon! 8-)

Falco.

:) I'll promise not to infringe and use our tag line when in Canada. I might ask for some advice on those roads when I'm there.

Luckily I haven't had anymore scolding me for having an older import diesel car. But I have an answer ready "Que? Yo no hablo ingles!" Most folks so far fell into the last category of being in awe as like they just met Beyonce. The baby boomers get a tear in their eye remembering the good old days when cars, along with everything else, was much more simpler. I relate.

I've had my L300 for a couple of months now and I gotta admit it's like being in a parade 24/7. I've never had so many strangers smile and wave at me!
