To self-import or not to self-import?

Hey everyone,

Can anyone tell me the true cost of self import through a broker like Saumai Garage?

lets say I buy a delica for $3200 CAN that is listed on the web site.

I will pay 6% GST, 6.1% import duty, shipping (have been told it is about $1800 but don't know for sure)

once it here I will need to deal with the lighting issue and mechanical inspection.

then I need to register it.

Can anyone fill in anything for me? What am I missing? Who has done it already?


The lot price in Parksville is about $9000 plus taxes...final cost is $10170.00.

Seem like I can do it for it for under $5000 (plus my time) my self. IS this true...just seems like I'm missing something
