Foreign Vehicle Insurance and Inspection - Windshield crack

Hi,
as I wrote in a recent post I intend to ship to Vancouver in April.

1. So far I was unable to get an insurance for my German foreign vehicle! It is just not possible. Can anybody please give me a hint what I could do?
ICBC tells me to go to any Broker but they assume I want to import the car. But I prefer just a temporary import and like to get the insurance in advance. It seems that for foreign vehicles there´s no chance to obtain an insurance???

2. I have a small crack in my windshield for quite some time. It hasn´t changed its size and I like to avoid an exchange of it. Because I am not aware of the procedures in Canada would you believe that IF I need to go to an inspection this crack would cause an issue?

Thanks again for your replies.

You will get as many different answers as there are members on this forum. If your car is l.h drive it should be easier.
Are you coming here as a tourist? I believe you can only stay a maximum of six? month. You will not have a residence here.
Remember that vehicle insurance is different in each province.
Here in Manitoba you generally have to replace a windshield to get a safety certificate.
If you want to insure your vehicle, it has to pass the provincial safety inspection.
Very confusing I know

Good luck and safe travels.

I believe you ask for international insurance. There have been a few members from other places to come to Canada and tour in their Delicas. One that comes to mind is "viajeros4x4x4", whom you can find out more in this thread. Read up on them and see what you find.

I hope this helps you out some.

Falco.

P.S.: I've moved this thread from "General" to "Import, Inspection & Registration".

Hey Andy,
I am coming on a working holiday visa and prefer to stay for a year (if I find a job). Most of the time in BC I guess. Of course no resident status. My car is LHD.
Anyway, having an insurance from the states (if that works out) I would be excepted by an vehicle inspection. But still try hard to get a Canadian.

@Falco: How can I find the mentioned foreign travellers here?

As far as I know most of the foreign vehicles were temporary imported by land and therefore could get their insurances right at the borders, even before the crossing. That´s impossible for me, unfortunately.

Hi there Andy,

First off I’m new to this forum, still getting used to it so if I’ve broken any rules here please keep in mind… anyway my husband and I just purchase a Delica Chamomix here in Manitoba. Importation is done but the guy we had a hook up with for safety seems to have disappeared. My question is, can you possibly help us in finding someone who can safety our baby in Manitoba? Or do you have any suggestions as how to find someone of such?

Thanks
Rhonda
