Coolant question? What is the correct coolant for the 4m40?

Hello,

I have been doing a ton of searching and have yet to find a definitive answer. This may have been posted already, but I could not find it. What coolant is correct for a 4m40 motor. I have just bought a 95 pajero and it was in need of a flush, I had a shop do it and they put it dexcool, which I had asked them not to do.

Will dexcool cause damage to my system?

After doing a ton of searching, I am leaning to getting my coolant from a local John Deere shop, green and for diesel motors. That is what they use in the 4m40 which they service in local tractors. I live way out on the east coast, so no local delica shop to check in with. I have not been driving that much since the flush (4days) so I am more concerned with long term damage, and want to know what the experience here has found.

My delica, which is currently off the road with body damage, has green coolant, and the pajero had yellow in it when I bought it. Thanks, Adam.

I have used Mopar diesel antifreeze. Mardy put it in when I got it and I put it in last year when I flushed it. Probably the same as the John Deere stuff, just easier to get.

Why would you think to put garbage in your cooling system, have you read how many problems dexcool has??

He said "they" did. Not him.

I went back to the shop and checked, it was not dexcool as I had thought, but a long life coolant, still orange in colour. That is why I assumed dexcool. The shop uses it in gas and diesel with aluminum or copper rads.

The guys say that they have never had an issue, but I Still don't trust it. So I will flush the system again, when I can find a few spare minutes and it as we are about to have our first child. It is also freaking cold outside.

From what I am gathering, a diesel specific coolant that is not dexcool will suffice. Thanks. Adam.

u just used regular green antifreeze I used green from Chrysler they used in cummins.
very compatible no issue at all to any diesel engine for the past 9 years.
the orange one they say ok for diesel is for the newer diesel.
as the newer diesel has diff material on the cylinder head gasket while delica has old type of cylinder head gasket.
if you put the orange one its very strong chemical on it , eventually damage and eat your existing cylinder head gasket.
cheers

Just for some clarification on this. I've used some of the red "long-life" antifreeze to top up my coolant. Very very little and not very often. Like, less than a litre over the course of the last couple years. Is this something I need to deal with?
