Importing from Canada to U.S.
Hey Everyone,
I am new here.. but have a very important question..
I have fallen in love (before even driving) a 1991 Delica L300 turbo diesel 4x4.
The problem is that the owner/seller is north of the border in Vancouver B.C.
It is also a right hand drive vehicle which I wonder will also be an issue.
Can anyone offer some advice or technical procedures related to bringing in a vehicle such as this into the states??
I'm willing to do some preliminary paperwork in order to streamline the process.. just wondering if anyone else has experience in this area..
thank you in advance very much!

Unless it's over 25 years old, you won't be able to legally register it in the states.

Re: Importing from Canada to U.S.
In Seattle myself - been fighting to bring mine over for about 2 years. No luck.
It borders on the impossible. There is only one legally registered Delica in the entire state of Washington.
You can thank Congress for this.
The older a model of Delica you can get, the better off you are. You are allowed to upgrade/replace parts on it with newer. But the VIN must be 25 years old or older.

Re: Importing from Canada to U.S.
There are good delicas of the right age to import to the US now. I bet we're going to see them start popping up down there soon. Good luck - they are great vehicles!
Happy Day!

For enough money I will part with my 1989 L300 hitop....
Not sure the month of manufacture? but it is going to be 25 years old real soon
It also has a BC issued 17 digit VIN

You will have little difficulty selling it to someone from the US. There are going to be lots of new US members soon

How much is the right amount? I am in the market, and the 89's should be legal now. I really need a real Delica!!!

Re: Importing from Canada to U.S.
It should be the year manufactured not model year so assuming my 1989 was built in 1988? Never tried to figure out when it was made... either way it is getting close....psilosin wrote:89+25=2014.

Re: Importing from Canada to U.S.
If you can convince the border people of the build date, then you can bring the vehicle across. It is the only thing stopping you as the EPA regulations on the engine are 21 years, not 25.thedjjack wrote:It should be the year manufactured not model year so assuming my 1989 was built in 1988? Nice job reviving a dead thread with a 'for sale' ad. Such a clever attempt at skirting the no dealer advertising rule...Duh!

To be fair it looks like that one is already destined for the US.psilosin wrote:Nice job reviving a dead thread with a 'for sale' ad. Such a clever attempt at skirting the no dealer advertising rule...Duh!
