Hello all you Alberta Delica owners. Who are you using for insurance? My other vehicles are insured through Intact, and they say they won't cover physical damage to a Delica due to RH drive, cost and availability of parts, etc.

There are a few options, but myself along with several others on this site have gone with The Cooperators in Canmore. Michael is who to deal with, I'm sure he's done a number of Delica policies now...

I was able to get full coverage, including theft, fire, collision, etc without any issue. Cost was just slightly more that what I was paying for a 91 4Runner

I use.

the only stipulation they had is they wanted an insurance appraisal done first. I triple checked about the RHD thing and they did not care. They are always super nice in the phone.

I use Primmum and do not have any issues although the true test of any insurance is how a claim is dealt with. Fortunately have not had to test it out yet.

I've used Meloche Monnex for full coverage on my Delicas for the last 5 1/2 years, and had no issues up until I bought my L400 last winter. When I went to insure it, I was informed that their policy on RHD had changed, and they will no longer offer collision and comprehensive. Over several calls I got a different associate and a different BS reason every time, but nothing based on facts, and they would stammer and blame the underwriter (owned by Meloche Monnex) when I picked apart their excuses. It wasn't until I asked for a letter from them explaining their position so that I could take my case to the ombudsman that they let me talk to a senior person who would work with me.
Since I had a long history with them of a clean driving record and no claims in my RHDs, she agreed to approach the underwriter to get an exemption. I took the opportunity to send information refuting the problems they had described to me, and included the UBC study that discredited the ICBC 40% 'study'. I got the expemption, but I was warned not to expect them to extend full coverage to me if I ever bought another RHD.
All the RHD BS and ignorance aside, I have never had a claim with them, but my wife has, and her experience was good. Decisions were made quickly, and she says they were pleasant to deal with.

I just recently got insurance for my '91 at Meloche Monnex. They would only insure me with 3rd party liabilty, which was cheap. They no longer insure RHD for full coverage and I had no experience with RHD on my insurance with them so I had no case.
All in all it was a pretty good experience, make sure you give them the V/N or else they will most likely give you the wrong quote.
They do require an Insurance Inspection within 30 days for vehicles over 15 years old. So now the task will be finding one that won't rip me off, and unfortunately I am up in Grande Prairie for a while...

This bothers me somewhat, it's like not insuring someone because they're a different skin colour, or left handed. Surely this must fall under Section 15 of the Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms?
