Hi folks,
I've searched the forum for recent information on VIN codes and can't find anything current. My insurance agent tells me I have to fill out a form to apply for a BC assigned VIN for my Jasper. I'm not so sure she knows the ins and outs of JDM vehicles...it sounded like she was quizzing an office mate the whole time I was on the phone.
She seemed to think I could plate the vehicle immediately after a passed inspection...so I wouldn't have to wait to drive it. Then the new VIN would follow later
Any current info regarding this in BC?
Thanks in advance

6 yrs ago my L300 had a BC assigned VIN
Both of my L400s were registered and insured using the stock Japanese VIN

Your agent doesn't know what she is doing, the delica does have a "short vin" but they just have to make a call to sort it out. Don't let them talk you into assigning a new vin = unnecessary expense and bother.
From Jfarsang:
Open the hood
On your left (drivers side) behind the fuse box on the firewall (mine was on the fender), you'll see the shiny plate with the vin and other data. Look straight below the rubber seal on the engine bay above the turbo and you'll see the vin stamped into the frame.

Call up Mardy at AAI; his insurance guy in Richmond got mine processed and it was a no-brainer.
They too used the Japanese VIN on the panel behind the fusebox.

Any autoplan agent should know how to get around a short vin. JDM vehicles are very commonplace these days. If your agent can't figure it out - just take your business elsewhere.

I got Starbug from Mardy, and his insurance agent had absolutely no problem getting me licensed. Took about 15 min.

Found an agent familiar with JDM vehicles in North Van. Axis Insurance. His name is Rom.
Thanks folks!
