A few questions from a potential Delica owner:
1. Will a WVO kit work in a Winnipeg winter climate? I'm talking winter temperatures down to -40°C. Or will I be running regular diesel during the winter? What are the low temperature limits to using a WVO kit?

2. For your kit, is it just pour in filtered WVO and go?

3. How is performance affected on WVO?

You could still run WVO in the winter I would think but you would likely need to do a bit more fancy stuff on the install like a hotfox in tank heater and Hose in hose stuff to get the oil warm in the tank and keep it warm on the way up to the filter and IP, also some line heaters wrapped around the metal lines up by the injectors and a strong electric fuel pump at the tank to help push the oil up to the IP, but I think it is doable. I haven't actually done my install yet, and I'm going with a single tank system (I wouldn't recommend single tank for your climate) so I'm not an expert.

1. I've read about WVO kits being used in cold climates and I did help Manitba Delica with his WVO install. You should get in touch with him about WVO supply and cold weather kit options.

2. All you need is filtered and dewatered WVO. Dewatering isn't as daunting as it sounds. I just heat mine up to 200F and let cool to 140F before filtering. It helps settle out particulates and evapourates the water.

3. I've read that you get about 10% HP and MPG than with diesel. I don't really keep track of the MPG of my veg, but I'd say it is slightly less than diesel, but a lot cheaper

The tank is coolant heated and the oil gets HOT in the tank, so I think this kit will work for you, the filter isn't heated but sits right next to the radiator and you can also fit the filter head with an optional heater, either coolant or electric (I think)... Once the engine gets to operating temperature you'll be able to switch over, so make sure the thermostat is the right one and replaced!

I read 39Ronin's post on his WVO install over in the Pajero section earlier - a couple questions, I guess for Andrew or Ronin...

Are the kits fully interchangeable between Delicas and Pajeros, and if not, what types of modifications or alternate hardware issues need to be addressed to set up a Pajero for running WVO? Also, I'm way up north in Prince George, so I'm probably going to be in the same boat as pathfinderscuba in regards to extreme winter temperatures.

Technically the kit is the same, but the mounting hardware will be slightly different. I fabricated my own mounting hardware to suit the Pajero. The only problem is if you want to sacrifice cargo room like I did or try and find a spot for the tank underneath, I couldn't see a spot without some major modifications so I put the it inside. I plan to build a box lined with metal in case of a crash I don't want hot oil all over the place if the tank ruptures. The box will also give me back some of the cargo room as I can stack stuff on top of it. The only other thing you may consider for PG weather is a heated filter. If I were to do it again I would have a fuel sender gauge installed in the tank. Other than that it is great.

Thanks for the reply, Ronin... and yeah, there didn't seem to be an abundance of space underneath the Pajero. I had it up on a hoist to undercoat the heck out of it the same weekend I picked it up (the stuff they use on the roads up here in the winter is harsh) and there's really nowhere to put even a small tank without making something seriously customized. I'm ok with the loss of cargo space, as I think we'll probably look for a rooftop rack/container for road trips, but that's good idea for a containment setup in case of a crash or rollover.

FIY - the kits have gone up in price by $75 to offset the huge drop in the Canadian dollar. Back when we put the kits together and worked out the price, the dollar was at par.

So... here is a question: Can one put regular diesel in the tank if veggi is not available ?(I assume so but as I am not sure I'd rather ask. What is the development of alternate placement of the spare tire?

In regards to the diesel in the tank question, yes you would be able to but I would not advice it as the tank is heated...

With this system you still have 100% factory use of your original diesel fuel system. The WVO system uses an additional tank and does not replace any of the factory fuel delivery components.

As for the spare tire, I would be able to bend up a front or rear swing out bumper/receiver hitch to hold the spare (I have a mandrel tube bender) but items like this would be totally custom and would require a lot of information to give an accurate quote. I believe that the majority of my customers either place the tire in the cargo area or in the room basket.

Hi Andrew, just a comment on the installation of the Vegtherm - you should move that hose clamp that is over the red (positive) wire. Vibration will likely abrasion of the white insulation, material, and the clamp will then short out on the positive wire, with the injector line acting as a ground. The solution is easy, just remove the clamp, bend the white insulation/wire tab a little bit away from the Vegtherm, and reinstall the clamp between the connection and the Vegtherm tube, such that no rubbing can occur.

if there is room for a small tank, put a small tank in and use the small one for diesel and the original tank for wvo, you could also consider going with a single tank system but would need to use the second tank and coolant heaters like in the 2 tank setups if you wanted to run WVO in temps below -10 or -15
