Delica market eastcoast?

Postby mareko » Thu Apr 23, 2015 5:20 pm

I`m planning to do a trip from BC cross Canada to the eastcoast in my 1992 L300 in the next month. As there are obviously not as many Delicaowners on the eastcoast I would be interested what people think abpout the Delica market over there. How good are the chances of selling a reliable, clean Delica on the eastcoast.

happy about any thoughts on that topic!

Depending on my research and further plans I would post my car with pictures and further description in delica trader soon.

Tough because people don't know them at all, it scares people off. Also, insurance in the east coast generally seems to be private, private insurers don't have the Delica in their books and generally charge enormous amounts. Unless you're lucky.

I tried to sell mine for a brief time of insanity. Lots of interested people, but nobody willing to pull the trigger due to it's uniqueness over here.

I agree with Macro. I live in New Glasgow (Westville) in Nova Scotia and people love our L300, ask questions, take photos, but maritimers are very cautious with their money. They're cautious with differences. Unless you're willing to let it go at a very low price, then maybe you'll get a buyer!
Are you going to Newfoundland? If so, you will have to come all the way up visit me at L'Anse Aux Meadows (Only archeological site of the Vikings in the Americas.

Have fun on your trip!

In Halifax there are three owners, including myself, that I know of.

There are a couple of places who sell JDMs but I haven't seen anything other than kei trucks here, and there aren't many. All were Daihatsu.
The first person who asked me about my van said he could use one like it, "for deer hunting." I'm not sure where he planned to put the deer, I hope he was thinking of getting a hitch and a trailer for the deer.
A few people have shouted at me with a happy grin on their face that I'm on the wrong side, I usually answer that I'm on the right side, which is literally true.
Some people have asked me how hard it is to drive on the right side, when I tell them it took me about a day for the driving part, and 3-4 days to stop confusing the wipers and the indicator lights, they seemed to think it would take them much longer. None asked me if they could try.
A middle aged woman asked me what kind of car I had, she had never seen one like it before.
A couple of enthusiasts knew about the Delica, but that's all -- two people in over a year. One worked for a place he said was a JDM importer, the other works at Apple Auto Glass.
One man at NAPA Auto Parts told me he knows where I live, he saw the Delica in my driveway and he lives nearby.

I e-mailed the local Mitsubishi dealership a couple of times but got no response from them.

Amazing lack of interest, really. :-(

One colleague is into VW vans, we chatted for about half an hour, lots of quirky engineering in those, that was interesting.
Oh and there is one independently owned service station down from where I live who seem to like Land Rovers, the older types.

I am happy with the Delica, and after seeing a fender bender yesterday where the whole front end of a lady's car ripped off and fell on the ground for a minor incident, I feel good about having a vehicle with stainless steel

Hello
I have a L400 and my son is on his second L300. We flew out to North Van and picked up his last van just over a year ago. I have to say I get asked almost daily what is it, where is it from etc. I bought mine in Vancouver also, then drove home to Halifax. I know of Patrice's and few others. There are some in Cape Breton and few others around the province.
If you are coming across and are willing it might be nice if you could make room for any spares that you might sell. My son has a parts L300 but L400 bits are few and far between.
If you would like to get together when your here we can make that happen. Maybe we could have a Delica meet and also also go for a sail. I has a 29 ft sailboat. What do you think Patrice?
If you want to pm me I can give you my contact info.
Doug
