Crash Test - L300 / Express

Post by MrDuncon »

I just found this video on Sunday when i relaxing, for me it's very frightening, i know it's just a 2WD version but i think there are not too much differences between the 4WD version and this. Few weeks ago i saw a crashed 4WD Delica in a local junkyard and the passenger cell was totally unshaped.

Please note that the current Mitsubishi L300 is a badge-engineered Mazda Bongo, and is a different vehicle than the L300s we have in Canada.

I noticed. The crashed deli what i saw was an original one, and i think there are no differences, there are nothing in front of you when you impact, just the dashboard.

I drove a 71 VW bus - now that's scary!! :o Or even worse, hunt down video of motorcycle crash tests...yikes. Bottom line is crashes kill and maim - nasty business no matter what vehicle you're in. Sure some are better than others and things keep getting better (I grew up floating around the back-seat of cars - forget the child-seat, we didn't even have seat-belts) but people die in air-bag equipped 'safety first' Volvos and the like too. Car crashes are BAD, avoid them as best you can! And while ya can't control the other yahoos out there, you can take driving seriously and assume you're the only one who does. Keep a low profile and stay outta trouble!

Josh's original van was involved in a head on collision. His wife was driving at 80 KmH on the highway and around the bend came some drunken person in a car doing 60 KmH. The Delica hit that car, spun around and collided with a truck? and eventually wound up in a ditch, on her wheels. I have seen his old van and I was amazed how little damage that was done, mostly the bambie bar was pushed into the van. Josh's wife was alright.
On another level I saw a Chamonix at CC Autos that had hit what looks like a big pillar. The front wrapped around something and looked very bad, but the driver walked away from it; there was no passenger but I think they might of had broken legs, hard to tell.
I guess the moral of the story is not to drive into walls. Conditions change. Drive accordingly. Be aware.

I'd say they are built like tanks. Mine runs and looks great (although it is written off, so it will never again be allowed on the road) and it was hit head on on the hwy. My wife is totally convinced she would not have been as fortunate to come out without a scratch if it was in anything else (especially if she was driving in one of our minitrucks!). I have no concerns. They are safer than most other cars in my opinion, and larger.

I'm in the hospital right now... got in a brutal accident yesterday in my l300. Someone in a pick-up ran a stop sign and I tboned them without even breaking, my seatbelt failed (not fully clipped in I guess) and I was tossed in to the passenger seat with my head out the window the van came down on my head pinning me there for 30 min for so. this was a low speed crash 30 kph... lost most of an ear and got scalped, I really wanna get another delica but i dont think the wife will let me. ill post some pics ff the van when i get out of here.
