Wouxun VHF/UHF Ham radio

Post by almac »

hello all,

to all hams out there: if you're looking for a well built inexpensive duel band handheld, i have some good news for you.
have a look at this: Wouxun KG-UVD1P UU 136-174/420-520Mhz
http://www.409shop.com/409shop_product.php?id=105746(nope. i don't work for these guys either.)
note the price includes FREE shipping, and a few necessary accessories.

my unboxing, et al...(sorry for the dark pix, my flash batteries were dead)

note: the HT comes with a desktop drop in charger, 12v adapter, and 1700mah battery. some come with speaker mikes and USB cables in the package.

somethings to consider:
this radio can operate out of ham bands. great for MURS, S&R volunteers, and any hams wishing to program their rigs for FRS/GMRS usage.
it was a bit of a pain to program manually, but with the programming cable and software, programming was a breeze. Batteries and accessories are REALLY cheap! :-)
there is no other handheld on the market today that can perform like the 1P for $100!

Hey Almac, when are visiting Vancouver again?

Yeah, we saw those radios at a club Ham-inar, Jay was so-o-o tempted to buy one for the anti zombie kit. Is yours unlocked, so you can programme FRS 5.22 we use for Delicas.

Fellow member resells them to club members, and everyone who has one is happy (bonus, he does the programming). Guess we'll have to think about this. Is yours unlocked, can you programme in FRS 5.22 Delica channel (I have the frequency list somewhere). Hey I just learned about repeater linking for handheld VHF, and your area also has one in the network, so we'll have to set up chat times.

P.S: We're thinking of Merritt area July 1-ish for a few days if you wanna met up.
Cheers, Christine.

My Wouxun is unlocked. and is a very wide band. i think the upper is 420-520 or something. i have the computer programming cable and have it setup for MARS/GMRS/FRS and several repeater around the okanagan. hell, i can hit penticton on the "82" repeater from my home, which is pretty amazing considering i live in black mountain...
if you're planning a visit, i would forget meritt(unless you have specific reasons). there's really not much to see there. they don't even have a half decent restaraunt there... drive another hour and come visit. i dont have a lot of room, but i have lots of camping space(i pretty much live in a forest now). ;)

Looks really nice. I'm very interested. Only curious thing I notice is that it doesn't say on the website what the transmit power is -- other than high/low.

Christine, you say you can get one easily?

Here are the FRS frequencies and tones http://www3.telus.net/vandriel/other/FRS.html. Sorry, I haven't updated the page to show GMRS. Note that subchannel 22 from one manufacturer often uses a different CTCSS tone than another manufacturer's subchannel 22.

5W/1W is about what I would expect. But it's always nice to know for sure. I know some compact HTs that are only 300mW.

VHF revival.

Thanks for the link. I snagged a cheap IC2200 on ebay when no one was looking for in-vehicle but on foot/emergency kit, this one will fit the bill nicely.

Cheers & bump :M
