autometer pyro 3343 is the most common. Found at Lordco/auto parts shops

exhaust - any shop. some better than others. also depending on your wallet size. mandrel is a lot more.

watch out for the PA boost gauge. Last night I ran a test with a grimmspeed MBC connected to a PA boost gauge and the gauge was faulty. read 12psi when it was actually 16.

I got mine done at Randy's Speedy Muffler in Port Moody. Nice guy, did a nice job. Did a 2.5" performance exhaust removing the resonator and welding on the tip I brought. Sounds amazing!

I used Hoegler's muffler in Richmond. Total cost was $125 and I brought my own $25 glass pack muffler. Now if I wreck it offroading I don't have to spend a fortune replacing a ss one.

Pajero exhaust has a lot more bends/longer than an L300 = higher price

I wasn't charged for bending. They have a generic price per foot. The same job at every other muffler place I spoke with was over $300 though which made Hoegler's less than half the price of others (and that included an extra hanger for $25 which wasn't in the quote).

Ya I went to Hoegler's but it like most other places I scoped out I just didn't like the feel of the place. I like it when the mechanic gets excited about the job and is willing to show you the product, answer questions, and make you feel like your money is going somewhere. Not just give a generic grunt "ya we can do that fer bout $400 or $700 ish"

I am sure they are all good in the end.

Are there any other mods we can do to gain HP as simple as this one?

aside from exhaust, boost air/fuel this is it.

next step would be larger intercooler + turbo + dyno tune

there's only so much that aluminium head can take.

the most effective would be a 3rd gen 4D56T CRD transplant. drooling over that idea... someday

Blanking the EGR makes a big difference as well as making sure your injectors are clean.

Blanking an EGR does nothing for power unless the EGR system was previously malfunctioning...
I don't know why I wrote this as it only pertained to a gas engine. What I should have said is the benefit is small, as in under 3% efficiency loss with the functioning EGR. The true benefit of EGR blanking is the decrease in combustion byproduct (soot etc..) clogging the intake related components.
I should state that I did indeed block mine. No notable performance gains. The larger exhaust was the most noticeable performance gain I have experienced.

Thats not my understanding, quite the opposite, when the engine is running normally the egr slows the flame front in the cylinder, keeping the temps under the level that causes NOx to form. This is from an engine manual for the 4D56 in an L200:
The EGR valve is being closed and does not
recirculate exhaust gases under one of the following
conditions. Otherwise, the EGR valve is opened
and recirculates exhaust gases.
The engine coolant temperature is low.
The engine is at idle.
The throttle valve is widely opened.
So blocking a normally working EGR will change normal running, not under temp running.

Fortunately, Delicat had given me a genuine Mystery Machine mild steel blanking plate and I decided to install it.
In the end the mild steel plate had a galvanic reaction with the aluminium mount so I ended up completely removing the whole unit and having it seal welded with a quarter inch aluminium plate on the intake end and bolting on an eighth inch steel piece on the exhaust manifold, with a home made brass gasket. The engine runs cooler without the recently exploded inert hot gases being re-injected into the the cylinder, which I might add causes less diesel to be burned which is what causes the clouds of soot out the tail pipe. More power, better mileage, less soot, cooler motor ~ I'd say one gets more power without the EGR. I really can't see how one could get less NOx emissions pumping super hot exhaust back into the engine.

Look up five gas analysis and it will explain the temperature relations to SOX,NOX etc. a blanked egr honestly does nothing but raise exhaust temp.... A very tiny bit. The hot exhaust coming in has none or very little oxygen therefore effectively deadening the combustion process. Lack of combustion equals lack or heat. But this only applies during egr recirc operation. Sorry my thumb hurts from typing on this I phone :( so I hope that makes sense :)

you don't get 'more power' from blanking the EGR on the small 2.5L 4D56T.

if you 'get more power' that means it was underpowered to begin with

By feeding the lower oxygen exhaust gas into the intake, diesel EGR systems lower combustion temperature, reducing emissions of NOx. This makes combustion less efficient, compromising economy and power. The normally "dry" intake system of a diesel engine is now subject to fouling from soot, unburned fuel and oil in the EGR bleed, which has little effect on airflow but can cause problems with components such as swirl flaps, where fitted. Diesel EGR also increases soot production, though this was masked in the US by the simultaneous introduction of diesel particulate filters.[6] EGR systems can also add abrasive contaminants and increase engine oil acidity, which in turn can reduce engine longevity.[7]

Though engine manufacturers have refused to release details of the effect of EGR on fuel economy, the EPA regulations of 2002 that led to the introduction of cooled EGR were associated with a 3% drop in engine efficiency, bucking a trend of a .5% a year increase.[
I know its wiki, but I'm quite happy that EGR is a bad thing, and we routinely remove them in the UK, in Japan they are required because they have emission laws which include NOx on the list, we don't.
