Your EGT installation

My van should be in my drive next week and one of the first mods I want to complete is an install of EGT. I'm asking what you guys have used, what you prefer? Do you have pictures of your installation?

I purchased a gauge and a probe from Auber Industries (www.auberins.com). I bought the SYL-1813-MR round gauge. The part number for the probe is TC KEGTS. The installation is pretty simple and the online manual explains everything.
I emailed the company twice with questions I had and both times I had a competent answer within one day.
What I like about this gauge is that you can select F or C and you can program an alarm thresh hold. There is a terminal that generates an output when the threshold is met and i wired that to a relay. That relay is hooked up to an alarm buzzer that I also got form them. It all works very well. The probe in the exhaust manifold is so exact that it reads ambient temperature to the exact degree before you start up the van.
My van is not in the driveway right now so I can not show you a pic. I can add one later.
They also sell thread in or weld in adapters for your thermo coupler.
One thing I do not like is that the display is very bright at night, even when hooked up to your headlight signal. This dims the gauges automatically but not to a desired level. (I emailed them about this and there is no fix for it at the moment).
I know other forum members used this gauge too. I highly recommend you check it out.

I also got the Auber Industries gauge. 204 pretty much covered everything about them. They have a very solid reputation for accuracy.

I also have an auber gauge (rectangular ones though and I opted for the longer wire, although I don't know if it was necessary. If you have an EGR blanking plate, it is quite easy to just drill and tap it for the thermocoupler. Then just hook it up to the gauge and add power to the gauge and you are done! I just have both my EGT and boost gauge side by side in the ash tray compartment which seems to fit nicely.

Does anyone run oil temperature as well? When I did this on my VW I found that it helped me understand when the engine was ready for a load. At the time, I lived above 8000' in a very cold part of Colorado so there was a need for it.

great info. going to order an auber for our van, looking at blanking the EGR at the same time and install the probe in the blanking plate...
which adapter option did you guys use? won’t be going with the weld-in as no access to a welder, but are the rest of the options similar or just personal preference?

I made my own plate and cut the threads with a tap. 1/4 " NPT I believe. Seems to work ok.

My boost and EGT gauge are EDO and I've liked them so far. solid construction and an easy install. I removed my EGR and had a shop tap the blanking plate to put in the EGT probe. Very easy and hassle free.
I put up some pictures of the pods on a previous post.
