Hello Delica Guys and Gals

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how to temporarily disable the glow plug circuit when camping. The glow plugs run off the "ON" bus and so do the windows. To conserve precious battery capacity while operating the windows I was thinking of either disabling the glow plug circuit with a switch for camping operations or somehow moving the window circuit to the 'ACC" bus.

Has anyone done this?
Any input would be appreciated.

Just thinking, would it be as simple as removing a fuse or fusible link for the glow plugs?

I removed the power window relay and put a jumper in its place, because I found having to crawl into the cab to turn the key on super annoying. And really, who doesn't want windows that work all the time? Apart from people with children, I guess, but having your arm amputated in a power window accident builds character.

It's above the accelerator pedal, the top left of the four is (usually) the power window relay. Wiggle it and it comes out. (In this picture the power window relay is missing- the loop of pink wire is where it used to be).

Make up a short jumper lead with spade terminals (male spades). Plug it into the rightmost two sockets. Try and use fairly beefy wire, it has to handle the current of a couple of power windows. Compare your wire to the thickest wire going to the power window switches.
There's no convenient fuse or fusible link that disables the glow plugs but nothing else. The fusible link that runs the glow computer also runs the ignition switch... and the power windows. You could unplug the small terminal on one of the glow relays, but the other relay has a screw terminal (which is a bit more irritating to remove).

Making the power windows work off the ACC line is possible. You'd have to find the Blue/red stripe wire on the back of the relay box (it'll be one of the two leftmost connectors that goes to the power window relay, the other wire will be black), cut it, and connect it to an ACC switched line in the back of the fuse box.

Just to clarify, by installing the jumper you are able to operate the windows with the key off? If so, that seems like the easiest and best solution.

What would be the best way to get at the relays? They are tucked in there pretty good. Remove the speaker??

That's right, the windows work all the time, even with the key out.

Removing the speaker panel is probably the easiest way. I'm not sure I thought of that when I did mine though, it was about 7 years ago

Just remember to wiggle the relay as you pull on it, otherwise it won't come out (or the metal cover will come off, leaving the guts installed).

I ended up going though the speaker panel and unbolting the fuse box to move it out of the way. It helps if you have skinny wrists though. I used some 8 gauge wire that I had left over from the fridge wiring.

Having the windows work all the time just makes sense. I don't have any kids to play with the windows for character building purposes...LOL.

I moved my window switch to the clock position and added a second power window switch in the rear. The set up is on power all the time no keys and no need to get out of bed to wind up the front windows.

You can grab a power supply from any nearby location to the switch if it's in the dash.
