Hi, I need to mount a Webasto water heater in my LWB L400 and am thinking that it would be best under the bonnet between the air filter and the servo; the recommendations from the UK site are to mount it underneath the body which doesn't seem to be a good solution to me. If I mount it underneath, then it is open to all the elements, the unit is not a waterproof design and the electrics would become damp / wet very quickly resulting in it failing.
If I mount it under the bonnet, it will be protected from the weather and also be in a warm (ish) environment which will help it survive, however, the reason I am asking is that the only space available is the space between the servo and air filter which is very tight and I am going to struggle to fit it there. I wondered about fitting a smaller or different design of air filter but it needs to attach to a snorkel as well so I am struggling to find an alternative.
Has anyone experience in fitting these heaters, should I pursue fitting it under the bonnet or where would / did you mount yours?
Thanks for any advice, Andy

Almost everyone mounts these under the body. It puts it closer to the fuel tank, and you can splice into the rear coolant lines.
There is a good discussion here. Note the comment on water crossings.

Thanks, thats a really interesting thread to follow, answering lots of questions I had and also ones that I didn't know I had!
So it sounds like mounting underneath is the way to go; has anyone done this or got info on how and where they mounted it?
Cheers, Andy

So jealous, I want one so bad. Always thought combining it with the rear heater would be ideal. Nice hot air coming down from the roof all night. Always wondered if you could add a direct switch to the rear heater so you didn't need the vehicle to be on. Way out of my budget now unfortunately.

You sure can do this. Though, you would want the heat coming from below, not above. More efficient that way.Always wondered if you could add a direct switch to the rear heater so you didn't need the vehicle to be on.
Also, it behoves you to insulate your Delica. If you don't, all that extra heat will get lost very quickly.
Great detailed write up for a L300 here, both with a water heater, and an isolator, to just heat the cabin.
