Snorkel's Made Easy...

Well here it, is my "ghetto" snorkel....created out of necessity, but mostly absolute boredom from having to lessen my excercise from having knee surgery.
I made one for a few reasons, first I had to relocate my air intake from the wheel well as I was planning on routing my intercooler tubing in the same area.( I have since changed my mind, but do have the intercooler for those needing one cheap..$75 with louver cover) Second, I had body damage on my B pillar directly in the location where a snorkel would mount. Thirdly, cooler air would only help keep my intake charge down. I have no direct use for forging streams and the like, and my understanding of turbo charge systems tells me there is no benefit to "ramming" pressurized air into the intake, as it is regulated by the turbo regardless...
So here is my cost break down:
PVC 4x1.5" 48"L tube care of Amazon 32.99 + 12.00 shipping
2.5"-2" Rad elbow hose from lordco 21.00
PVC mount plate from home depot 3.79
PVC solvent/primer 8.00
Rocker panel paint (black) 16.00
48" x 2.5" ABS tube from home depot 7.49

...and, roughly 10 hrs of my time.

I like it! I plan to do a homemade snorkel as well in the next year or so.

Did you block the bottom of the air filter to prevent water from coming up if ever in need
of crossing a stream ?

how is the intake noise with the window open?

I was thinking of re doing mine in square tube (aluminum or steel).

Do you have a EGT gauge in noticeable difference?

Mine as well answer both questions at the same time,
I am aware of the drain plug on the filter housing and will do nothing until the moment arises I "might" forge some water... Likely no time soon. Simple enough to install a plug.
As for egt temps, yes I run a gauge (aubur 1813) and have seen very little change, I have however noticed a small decrease in lag off the line. I have run injection before, and i suspect the most noticable difference will be on the sustained climbs where saturation is highest. I installed my injection at the same time, so I will disarm one of them and get some real data together in the next while. I have noticed no additional noise while driving even at 110km, no howling etc...just the same as before, just a nice gurgle while at idle with drivers window open;)

mine is pretty loud with the window open (I also turned around the intake on the airbox as Felix did (made it much more direct)...

Mine was pre EGT so no idea if it made a difference....

I was thinking to go to tube to see it cut down on the induction noise...

Maybe it's not the shape that's the issue, it could be the theory that there is no natural baffle in a direct flow routing;)

Nice looking van and interesting mods on the front bull bars. Would you mind posting some more front end photos?

I'm not trying to thread jack, just want to see some better angles on the front bull bars as I'm doing some work on mine now as well. Thanks!!
