Great interior shots! Definitely a form follows function kind of design.

You should try putting the Crystal Lite windows in your high top. :-D

Thanks for the feedback..

Handling: no noticeable difference except the duct tape reminding me how tall it now is on the window (drivers compartment has the stock low roof so you forget....I have not had to sail it in a strong crosswind yet...No frame flex (ie I can still close the back door with it up on three wheels (all the structure is in the perimeter frame (no cuts here and I add a more bracing then factory). Newish front shocks thanks to Rich so better then it ever has been.

Interior is not done (I have lots of trim to go in and few more mods planned for later), but it is very functional.

Hi thedjjack,

We also would like to add a Hitop on our delica so that our kids can sleep in the roof and it will be warmer for cold days. I have a L300 but long version and I found an old L300 non 4X4 with a hitop but a short version.

My plan is to take the roof from L300, find someone to extand it and put it on our van. I was wondering however how difficult it would be to unfit the hitop from the short L300.

Any advice? Should I be worry about something in particular when i have a look to the hitop of the short L300?

Many thanks!

extending the hightop should be really easy and fitting it to the van is not bad (total time fitting was about 6 hours cutting and attaching and this roof need cut on the bottom edge to line up).

You could also just put the short roof on and leave a little room at the back for a small cargo area outside (this would be so simple....this option you and a few friends could fit it in a weekend). probably enough room for 6 gas cans at the back before the hatch.

If you do cut the roof to lengthen it just make sure you have a resin that works with the material some of these tops are made out of strange stuff.

Any photos?

Thanks for your prompt answer and what a great idea! The LWB is 40 cm or so longer than a SWB -look at the door rail to get an idea- I may be able to fit a (maybe home-made) small box that would contain some camping stuff (chairs, foldable table, etc ... or even a 20l black plastic bag for the summer shower. Adding the box may be also nice to not make it too weird to put a SWB hitop on a LWB Delica (yes I like that our van looks nice and cool + my terzo ladder would also still be useful - no waste!). I think I am going to do some quick drawings with my computer to see what it could look like.

Our van is presented here: http://www.delica.ca/forum/back-from-a- ... tml#p68357 and here is a picture of a LWB L300 fitted with an extended hi-top and all the things I would like to add on our (in particular a swinging spare wheel carrier to add a petrol tank underneath). Your hitop construction + this van decided me to go that route (I will also need to add some surfboards holders instead of sand plates on the side of the hi-top):

Here is a picture of a SWB 2WD L300 that used to be made in the beginning of the 90s here in Europe (Germany, Holland, Autria and maybe Italy):

Image

+ I could use all the interior to fit it in our van (I am considering doing again the camper setting in our van so that might be a good opportunity too).

... and I do not resist to add a picture of our last journey to Australia:

where I could surf with friends:

Awesome. I love what you've done with your van. One day mine will be as practical!! Maybe without the high top though... An ARB awning is on my list for next year, after a new roof rack. Is that the 6' one? Very nice!!!
