Re: Coolant gurgling

Get a bicycle. About as practicle as a scooter, but it will turn you into an iron man. It cost nothing to operate, and there are dedicated bike lanes all over the place. Get fit while you commute.

Re: Delica spotting - This Place Film

Freaky - we were literally talking about booking our campsite at beachside for next summer as I was idly browsing the delica website and came across your post. I'm addicted to the Oregon coast. So are my kids. That and Yumm Sauce. Maybe I'll see you next summer.

Re: Bull Bars

It's true, it is the result of a change in Japanese regulations which no longer allowed any kind of bull bars on production vehicles in 1998. You will notice no bullbars on any Japanese vehicles after this - even the L300's got the no bullbar bullbars. It was all in the interest of pedestrian safety.

Re: Coolant gurgling

RSI did a ton of work on my van for just under $3000 before taxes - a complete head, all the belts, timing and balancer tensioner, new water pump, oil pump o-ring, injection pump seal, valve cover gasket, pressure relief valve, 4 front oil seals, new head bolts, balancer shaft bearing and sleeve, ne...

Re: Coolant gurgling

CVI wouldn't put the wrong head on, not to worry. Even if it doesn't feel that different than it used to, enjoy the piece of mind.

Re: Coolant gurgling

Are you sure you got the right head? When I had my head replaced the first time, assinaboine put the wrong head on (recessed vs flush valves). Ran fine, but low power. It eventually destroyed the engine - the shop eventually replaced the whole engine at their expense. Who did the work?

Re: Jalopnik - top 10 best vans ever built

Best is so . . . subjective. How can the vw type 2 not be on the list? The sycro was more a niche vehicle, the type 2 was a world icon. And a Greenbiar? A totally forgotten short production run vehicle. It is actually kind of strange that the Delica even made it on to this bizarre list without looki...

Re: L300 Stretch updates

Mine always reads at 1/4 or below. I've changed rads, thermostats, and pretty much everything else on the cooling system and I can never get it above 1/4. I know this is the case with others too, and my mechanics never bat an eye at this.

Two cupholders, tissue dispenser, and trash fits l400 series ones. Not many willing to spring for one at $350, but it's available.

Re: Metal Jerry Cans

Not pricey. If you want high quality metal jerry cans, that is the going price, or a little less. Plastic ones are cheaper, and do the job. . . but they are plastic. If you want nice looking cans on your roof rack, you get what you pay for.

Re: Coolant gurgling

In my case, there was a very direct relationship between the amount of coolant I lost, and if I had the rad cap on or not. If I put the cap on, the coolant basically blasted out into the overflow and onto the ground as soon as it warmed up. Other drivers would even notice it while I was driving at h...

Re: Coolant gurgling

Yes, it's good to look at all the options. Doing just the head, etc, made sense for me at the time. If you have a lead on parts from Japan, and the time to sort it all out - then yes, of course. It also depends on your long term plans for your van. How much might a new engine increase resale, if tha...

Re: Coolant gurgling

Yikes! It's hard when you depend on your van daily - I was fortunate enough to have a second vehicle while I sorted things out. And by the way, the cost of a simple head is closer to $2000 - I had a complete head rather than a bare head installed, plus I did a bunch of extra things while the engine ...

Re: Coolant gurgling

I don't drive my van a lot - we walk to and from work/school - but it lasted for months while I waited for my L400 to arrive from Japan. But, I did drove my van all the way home from Yellowstone with the rad cap off - slow and steady. If your situation is anything like mine was, you will be fine - b...
