1999 L400 Chamonix-black smoke/running rough

I have the same year/model and had similar issues with black smoke. There's a few places to start before you rebuild the injection pump. MAP sensor filter - orange plastic screw in filter attached to your intake manifold. Has a black vacuum hose attached to it that runs up to the MAP sensor. Buy som...

94 Delica just stopped suddenly

Sounds like your front seal in your injection pump is done. Allows oil into the injection pump. It will start fine, stall out after a few blocks, after much cranking will start again, will run fine rest of the day if kept warm.

New L400 Diesel Owner - need help learning to diagnose issues!

Good new you got it started and hopefully your local mechanic can sort you out. Don't know the part number off hand, but if you take it into Lordco they may he able to match it up. Otherwise you can get one from Japanoid, rising sun, Amazing auto.

New L400 Diesel Owner - need help learning to diagnose issues!

Sorry to hear that, Steph. Are you able to get it started at all? If it's just the front seal once you crank through the oil and the van warms up it should give you no problems for the remainder of the day as long as.it stays warm. If it's the injection pump it sounds like it may he more than just t...

New L400 Diesel Owner - need help learning to diagnose issues!

I am hesitant to give advice on whether to road trip in it or not. Would hate to say go for it and have you blow things up. I would call Coombs and ask what they think on the matter. Great guys and are always available to provide advice. If you can get it to them for the work needed all the better. ...

New L400 Diesel Owner - need help learning to diagnose issues!

1995 will be the series one so not electronic fuel injection. You can disregard the part about the MAP sensor, you don't have one. 1. Glow plug test. Only way I know is to pull them out and hook them straight to the battery to see if they Glow hot. Also you can visually inspect them which you can of...

New L400 Diesel Owner - need help learning to diagnose issues!

Hey Steph, What year is the van? Knowing if it's Series 1 or series 2 will help with diagnosis. 1. White smoke sounds like glow plugs . Further to this if your injectors are out of spec they will cause your glow plugs to fail faster. 2. The starting issue could also be glow plugs, but these vans als...

4M40 Timing chain nightmare

Thank you for sharing your experience. I also need to give a thumbs up to John. Last year over the Xmas holidays I was starting a 3 week tour of the island when on e of my calipers seized up (for the thousandth time). I called John and they got me in the day which I believe was the 23rd or 24th Dec!...

It will lay flat. The Delicas were designed to be able to sleep in. Not very comfortable though. Most folks build a bed platform of some kind.

MUT2 Scanner in the Vancouver area?

RJD auto in North Vancouver has a scanner that works on the ABS and probably the SRS codes also. They are currently chasing down and ABS issue for me and there scanner not only shows codes , it graphs the sensors and can tell when one drops out when it shouldn't. Mine is a series 2 L400 diesel, but ...

L400 Dual Batteries / what can i get?

I would just pull the batteries, take them to Napa, get them to match them and recycle them. I'm sure you have a comparable to Edmunds out there somewhere, but Napa will have decent batteries and a warranty to boot.

PCV vents to atmosphere

It is supposed to be plumbed back into the intake post airfilter/pre turbo. It's vented to atmosphere to prevent the blow by gasses which have oil vapours from re entering the intake. The proper way to do that is to install a catch can to separate the oil vapours and put the clean air back into the ...
