4M40 Timing chain nightmare

Thank you for sharing your experience. I also need to give a thumbs up to John. Last year over the Xmas holidays I was starting a 3 week tour of the island when on e of my calipers seized up (for the thousandth time). I called John and they got me in the day which I believe was the 23rd or 24th Dec!...

Middle row, jump seat removal

It will lay flat. The Delicas were designed to be able to sleep in. Not very comfortable though. Most folks build a bed platform of some kind.

MUT2 Scanner in the Vancouver area?

RJD auto in North Vancouver has a scanner that works on the ABS and probably the SRS codes also. They are currently chasing down and ABS issue for me and there scanner not only shows codes , it graphs the sensors and can tell when one drops out when it shouldn't. Mine is a series 2 L400 diesel, but ...

L400 Dual Batteries / what can i get?

I would just pull the batteries, take them to Napa, get them to match them and recycle them. I'm sure you have a comparable to Edmunds out there somewhere, but Napa will have decent batteries and a warranty to boot.

PCV vents to atmosphere

It is supposed to be plumbed back into the intake post airfilter/pre turbo. It's vented to atmosphere to prevent the blow by gasses which have oil vapours from re entering the intake. The proper way to do that is to install a catch can to separate the oil vapours and put the clean air back into the ...

L300 to L400 rear bench seat conversion

I have seen in one of the Delica forums someone had done that. They were also selling them as the van had been totalled. This was years back. It's possible with some custom brackets made. Try doing a search in Google and on this forum. Good luck

1999 Series 2 Chamonix error codes

Error codes were the solenoid pack that controls the egr and the throttle body. They commonly go south on the series 2. Amayama has them for about $200. Black smoke in the end was the injection pump. Put in a known good used one and the fuel consumption and smoke has corrected itself. I also did the...

L400 Problems Starting Engine

Sounds like it may be your front seal on your injection pump. Common problem. On the L400 when the seal goes it lets engine oil in which makes cold starts very difficult. Once the engine is warm it will burn the oil no problem.

Acceleration hesitation

This is getting a bit out of my knowledge base unfortunately. The best tranny guy I know of in Vancouver is Wilf's transmission. I'm not sure he works on Delicas, but he's worth a try. If it's a solenoid or a valve body issue he should be able to diagnose that.

Acceleration hesitation

These trannies are pretty solid, but it could be a shift solenoid. Have you tried flushing and filter change on the tranny yet? How's the fluid look? Smell burnt? Can't remember if the series 1 has any other electronics on the outside of the tranny body. Sometimes those can get dirty and all they ne...

Acceleration hesitation

It does with electric fuel injection, but doesn't apply to you as yours is a series 1 which is mechanical fuel injection. Do you hear a hissing type noise during the hesitation? If so could be over boost. Any turbo work done lately?

Acceleration hesitation

What year L400? If it's a series 2 my money is on your alternator. The diodes start to go and cause hesitation at that rpm.

The overdrive switch may also be on it's way out. May need to replace it.

Front Ventilator or fan doesn't work

It would be under the dash. Heater and or heater relay. That is also a common problem with the L400. The heater relay behind the glove box gets fried. Have a Google search for "L400 heater relay" and info should come up. On second thought this is most likely your issue.
